Rating: Summary: 1 part erotica +1 part psychothriller = another Zane hit Review: As Ludacris said in a verse from Usher's 2004 hit "Yeah!" most men want a woman who is "a lady in the streets but a freak in the bed". But what happens when one woman is a lady in the street and is a freak, just not in the bed and she doesn't realize it until it's too late?
This paradoxical problem is faced by Jonquinette, the lead character of Zane's novel "Nervous" which is based on a short story from her earlier collection of erotica "The Sex Chronicles". Jonquinette is a shy young woman who finds herself not too inclined to talk to men interested in her. She doesn't consider herself a total virgin but she doesn't find herself wanting to sleep with just anyone, so her life for the most part is dull.
But when the weekend rolls around, Jonquinette goes to sleep and later re-awakens not as Jonquinette, but as a foul-mouthed and sex-obsessed woman named Jude who goes out and finds wanton and virtually unsafe sexual adventures with anyone and everyone she comes in contact with to find a sexual release.
This behavior goes on until Jude goes to sleep and re-awakens again as Jonquinette. Jonquinette realizes that Jude has been up to her old tricks again (leaving hints of her presence and sexual indiscretions)and realizes that this has to come to a stop here and now, so she heads to talk with Dr. Marcella Palmer, who first appeared in the novel "Addicted". When Jude resurfaces later and realizes that Jonquinette has been seeing Dr. Palmer she goes nuts and really goes full throttle on her sexual escapades.
Later, Jonquinette begins to find herself attracted to a new neighbor that moves in next door. While this is a good thing for Jonquinette, Jude detests the romance because she realizes that if Jonquinette settles down with her new love interest then the sexual party is pretty much over. But will Jude do something that will not only have dire consequences for her, but Jonquinette as well?
This book is definitely a unique combination of Zane's trademark incendiary erotica and a case study in what happens to one person when they know that they have multiple personalities (the seemingly passive/submissive Jonquinette and the aggressive/dominate Jude) and how the actions of one affects the other and all those around them.
This is definitely a book that takes two unique topics and combines them nearly effortlessly to form one major hit form the mistress of African-American erotica, Zane.
Rating: Summary: zane is off da hook. Review: For those of you looking for an arotic tale, look no furthur. Zane's books will have you on the edge of your seat. Her imagination is wild. You may even try some of the things that she writes about. Enjoy !!!
Rating: Summary: Damn, Damn, Damn Review: I bought Nervous when the book first came out. I was never a Zane fan until my friend went ON and ON about Addicted.
After reading Addicted I was HOOKED! I never read a book that was so detailed and of course, the extra drama just made me want to continue. And the end of the story, that had me in shock. I read it five different times to make sure I wasn't tripping. Nervous shows a side of a woman that I think we all have thought about or for some freaks out there tried. Of course people won't like this book or the way Zane says what's on her mind because it's too raunchy for their simple-no-baby-you-get-on-top-don't-go-down-there minds. Zane says what's on some women minds but are too afraid to say it because everyone is too busy worrying about what others think
So Kudos to you Zane, and keep bringing those books out.
Rating: Summary: Zane who??? Review: I picked up this book because everyone was talking about Zane's books. Apparently, I have been out of the loop of devoted readers. I read "Addicted" first. While reading it I was initially enchanted by her erotic details, but it didn't take long to get bored with all these erotic mini dramas without a good plot to surround it. I realized she's just not a good writer. Aside from the steamy, sometimes just plain raunchy lines there's very little else to grasp. And of course, this is just my opinion. Her skills are very limited. The books sound like bad Skinemax movies. The character developments are weak as are the overall plots. And I'm tired of her hero men that are so accepting of the wacky female lead characters. Her steamy scenes boarder on just crude, but I suppose that was her aim. After reading "Addicted" and the terribly dramatic ending I was leery of wasting time on another Zane book, but I was talked into it. And "Nervous" is another disappointment! Too many clichés, too predictable, the plot twists are weak and the language is sometimes boring. For some reason her characters are not very believable. Good fiction has to walk the fine line of being fiction and having that element of believability. The one thing I can say is that Zane's books are page turners; unfortunately, the last page was the sweetest page to turn! It's clear what type of audience would find her books well-written, but it's anything but for those whose waters run deep. Anyone interested in well-written plots and excellent characters look at authors like Bernice L. McFadden and Zora Neale Hurston. All I can say about the end of "Addicted" is: YOU WENT TOO FAR! And even with "Nervous" you can tell Zane wants you to believe in the main character being healed and heading off to this wonderful life with Mason, but no, that's not accomplished. Mason came off as too good to be true, desperate, and apparently attracted to basket cases...nothing cute about that! But you'll just have to read it for yourself to decide.
Rating: Summary: GOOD TO THE LAST DROP!! Review: I think this is Zane's best work yet. Originally I didn't have a clue as to what was going on. Multiple personalities? I found myself having fun. I enjoyed keeping up with one person that proved to be three people. This work is funny, yet serious. I would recommend buying this book.
Rating: Summary: YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN!!!!!!! BRAVO Review: LET ME START OFF SAYING THAT EVERYTHING THAT I'VE READ OF ZANE'S HAS KEPT ME WANTING MORE SO I WAS VERY PLEASED TO READ "NERVOUS" THIS WAS A VERY VERY GOOD BOOK I WAS ABLE TO READ IT IN LEAST THAN 12 HOURS I MEAN IT KEPT YOU WANTING TO KNOW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN NEXT AND THAT'S WHAT'S MAKE THIS A VERY INTERESTING BOOK AND I LOVE THE WAY SHE WROTE CHARACTERS FROM "ADDICTED" DOCTOR MARCELLA SPENCER AND ZOE REYNARD TO PLAY A PART IN THIS STORY IT'S JUST SUCH A GREAT TALENT THAT ZANE HAS AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE........ AND REMEMBER A ALTAR EGO LIVES WITH IN ALL OF US.......
Rating: Summary: Black Ink Books Review: This book is about a woman with unknown multiple personalities. The main character is a complete opposite of her hidden personalities. The hidden personality also has an addiction to sex with multiple men which creates a problem for her alter personality who is a virgin.
This book was a good read and kept me interested and as always with ZANE books there was sex, and a lot of it. I enjoyed the pace of the book and I couldn't wait to find out how the book was going to end, the final hook was a shocker and put that extra cherry on top.
Rating: Summary: Not the best! Review: This book was a big disappointment. She had a good subject, MPD and she did not work a believable storyline. I will read more books by her because I believe she can write a good story.
Rating: Summary: so......so.......!!!!! Review: This book was OK...I haven't read many Zane books but out of the ones i read this was at the end of the list, only because you know whats going to happen next. I would recommend this book to read but DEFINATELY not a first ZANE read.
