Rating: Summary: Great, unique novel Review: A lot of reviewers have said they dont understand where Adrianna got her skills from... well it says that early on she was a math wiz and learned calculus before she dropped out of school at a young age. I thought it was kinda obvious that she must have taught herself (because she is so smart, good at math and logical thinking). This book was interesting because the first part of the book was so different from the last half, as far as tone and action. I found the plot very unique because you get to see both the good and bad sides to living in a Moslem world. I kind of wanted Adrianna and her father to make up somehow, but I guess thats just the optimist in me. Excellent book, I could hardly put it down and finished it in about two days.
Rating: Summary: Racist and Ignorant Review: I don't even know where to start with what I feel about this book, the author and my fellow reviewers. I picked this book up because I love Nora Roberts and the genre but the feeling of "this is NOT happening" intensified with each passing page. Muslims are portrayed as backward, cruel, barbaric and reprehensible in every way. This book promotes and perpetuates every horrible stereotype about Muslims - more specifically people from the Middle East who are Muslim (because they're not all Muslims you know!) I have never been so disgusted by a book only three pages in!
Rating: Summary: Great story!!! Review: I love this story! I disagree to some reviewers who find it boring and thinks that only a true Nora Roberts' fan will give it a 4 or 5 star. I have no idea who is Nora Roberts before I read this book. I happened to picked this book up in the library and read the summery behind the paper back. And I decided to borrow it. And was I amazed! I got so adicted to the story and the characters that I could not put the book down. I never finish a story book within a day. And I did for this one. I wish this book could be make into a movie. It will be interesting. Recently, I just watched this movie "The Sleeping Dictionary" and the leads, Hugh Dancy & Jessica Alba remind me of the Princess Adrianne & Phillip in "Sweet Revenge". I think Jessica Alba will make a stunning Princess Adrianne and Hugh Dancy will look great as the handsome English man, Phillip. Anyway, this is kind of out of topic. I highly recommend "Sweet Revenge" to non Nora Roberts' fan and those who are her fans and haven't got the chance to read it. You will love it!
Rating: Summary: A fast-paced and fascinating story Review: I really enjoyed "Sweet Revenge" by Nora Roberts. Although it is one of her less reality based stories, her ability to draw the reader into the world she has created stops this from being an issue. The two main characters are likeable and well-developed and the story is full of excitement. This book kept me turning pages half the night! The beginning of the book is incredibly heart-rending and upsetting. The reader is introduced to Phoebe Spring, an american actress who has left her world behind to live with the man she loves, Abdu, in his native country of Jaquir (a fictitious Muslim country). When Phoebe gives birth to a girl and subsequently finds out she can no longer bear children, Abdu decides that he no longer has any use for her. He takes away the "Sun and the Moon" a priceless necklace containing a giant pearl and diamond, that was his bride gift to Phoebe. Abdu takes more wives and regularly beats and rapes Phoebe. On top of that, King Abdu despises Princess Adrianne, his first-born child, because she is a girl and because she came from Phoebe. When Adrianne is 8 years old, Phoebe risks life and limb to escape from Jaquir and give Adrianne a life of freedom in America. Phoebe tries to return to a career in acting, but Abdu has broken her spirit and she suffers from terrible depression until she eventually dies from an overdose of pills and alcohol. This part of the story is very well-written. We pick up the story with Princess Adrianne as an adult (in her twenties) living a life of glamour as a prominent figure in society. But this is just a front to cover up the fact that she is really a master jewel thief. Princess Adrianne then meets Phillip Chamberlain, a retired jewel thief who now works as an investigater for Interpol. The relationship that develops between these two is fresh and heart-warming, and as they learn to trust each other their scenes together really sizzle! But Adrianne has never forgotten her father's cruelty to her mother and plans to get the ultimate revenge on him by stealing the "Sun and the Moon", his most prized possession. Together, Phillip and Adrianne travel to Jaquir to bring justice to Phoebe by punishing Abdu for his brutality. But their mission is the most dangerous either has ever embarked on, and any mistake will mean death for both of them! This book is a great read. It is full of adventure and romance, and really keeps the reader's attention. So pick up this book, forget your troubles for a few hours, and get completely wrapped up in the lives of Adrianne and Phillip as they take their Sweet Revenge!
Rating: Summary: It Takes A Thief to Catch a Thief Review: I've read thousands of romance novels over the years and the best out there are the ones that make you empathize with the characters, the ones that really engage you in the story, so much so that you're not just reading a book but makes you want to shout and tell the heroine, "You go, girl!" In my humble opinion, Sweet Revenge is one of them.
It is an unconventional romance between legendary-jewel-thief-turn-Interpol-agent Philip Chamberlain and socialite-cum-legendary-jewel-thief Princess Adrienne of Jacquir. Philip is on an assignment to expose the identity of The Shadow, who has been stealing gems belonging to the rich and famous for ten years.
Adrienne steals the jewels and donate the proceeds to the poor, using them as opportunities to hone her skills for her final mission to seek vengeance for wrongs done against her mother. She is unyielding in her quest for revenge, and Philip struggles to understand her even as he finds himself in love.
*Spoilers*
My favourite part in the story was when Adrienne fell into a trap that Philip set after he stole her necklace. And an incident when he forced her to return the jewels she had stolen from the wife of a hotelier was hilarious.
All in all, this is an extremely enjoyable read. If you've read Sidney Sheldon's If Tomorrow Comes, you will enjoy Sweet Revenge as well, and vice versa.
Rating: Summary: fast paced story, wonderful main character Review: one of the best nora roberts books i've read. The story has intruigue, is exotic, and the main character fueled by revenge...it all adds up to a great read.
Rating: Summary: One of Roberts' very best! Review: Sweet Revenge is quite simply magnificent! I read it years ago and was thrilled when it was re-released. I don't much care for thieves, but Nora has a way -- in this book, in her earlier one, Hot Ice, and in her later one, Honest Illusions -- of making thieves truly honorable... quite a feat in my opinion since I think "honor among thieves" is an oxymoron! The plot, showing Adrianne's past and how it has molded her present, is fabulous. I loved Jaquir and I enjoyed my visit there. :-) I especially loved Adrianne and Philip's wedding... beautiful! The secondary characters were not mere foils but truly contributed to the story. Abdu was thoroughly reprehensible; Celeste, strong and loving; Mary, wise; and Phoebe, sweet and surprisingly dynamic in her struggle with mental illness. This is a once-in-a-lifetime story. Savor it because not many books of this magnitude come along. Take a bow, Nora!

Rating: Summary: boring... Review: This book started out fast and then died. I kept wanting to skip to the end to see how it turned out, but eventually I gave up and it's been sitting on my bookshelf ever since. It was more of a mystery novel than a romance. I read at least half the book and the romance still didn't happen. Did the heroine ever actually meet the detective? Was that the romance part of the book? It kept dragging and dragging and dragging. I kept saying to myself, "When are they going to meet each other?" The half of the book I did read only had about 2 scenes with the detective. The rest of it was yada, yada, yada about the mother and her problems with life. It was nothing about the heroine. Only a diehard Nora fan is going to give this book a 4 or 5 star.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: This is the first I've read from Nora Roberts. It's a great read and very entertaining. Princess Adrianne is tough despite her description. Phillip, you could just fantasize. Addy gets too involved, yet stays focused. These characters are witty, charming and at the same token mysterious and solemn. I would love to describe more of the book, but you've got to read it to enjoy it. This author is very talented and knows how to suck you in from the beginning. Do enjoy.
