Rating: Summary: Exellent! Review: As with all of Donald Goines books, this one is great too... everyone should check it out!
Rating: Summary: A LITTLE DISTURBING Review: I read this book in two days. It was a good book but the whole book was so sad I just cant believe that the main character George would allow these men the Jones boys to continuously rape his sister once a week for 2 years its bad enough that they gave her the spanish fly (farmers use this to mate cattle) drink that made her go crazy but on top of that they were bold enough to come around once a week and rape her over and over again for 2 years unbelievable i was cringing though this whole book
Rating: Summary: Swamp Man gets his revenge! Review: Swamp man is the fourth Donald Goines book I've read and like the other books, the story is too good to put down. The way the characters in this book use different racist slang towards the black people in this town (I lost count at four) was a realistic view of people in the south at the time. It was sad to read what happened to his sister and how she was brutally raped over and over again by men who had no heart at all. I wish that the ending could have ended on a happier note, but this Donald Goines we're talking about. There is no happy note at the end of his books... Just reality.
Rating: Summary: AVENGE TO THE DEATH Review: Swampman is a very good book that takes you back in time when white's were still lynching blacks. George watched his father get hung by some white people who wanted his rifle.Still just a child there was nothing he or his sister could do.When George's sister returns home from collage the same guy's that hung there dad beats and rapes her, not to mention some kind of drink they gave her that made her lose her mind. There grand dad dies and the young George is forced to take care of his older sister which has the mind of a small child. After A couple of years George decided to take action killing the jones boys. the guy's responsible for raping his sister and causing her to lose her mind and killing his dad. His sister wonders off and gets bit by a snake and falls in a pit of quick sand, and the sheriff and his deputy kills George but by the time they did, all of the Jones boys were dead. This is a good book overall and I loved it
Rating: Summary: Disturbance... Review: This is the eighth book tht I've read from Goines and by far, the most disturbing. Had I read this book first, I would've never picked up another. It's not that he's a bad writer because he is really really good (great dialogue, great plots, intriguing characters when he diversifies them), but all his topics drain me out. Reading about a rape for about sixty percent of the book should drain the average person out. Reading about a situation where the father is murdered is one thing, but the two men in her life turtle-walking to revenge is another. I don't even understand what Goines expects to accomplish with this book besides upsetting people. Not one positive thing came from this book and I know all books don't necessarily have happy endings, but I didn't even learn anything from this book. Then again, none of the other books did either, so why am I surprised? I've had enough of reading this author!
