Summary: Did I read the same book???
Review: After reading the other reviews, I have to wonder what book I read. Yes, there is a lot of action. Yes, there is a lot of time spent on (in?) submarines. But no, the believability factor is missing.

Mr. Dimercurio seems to want to use a jackhammer when a small tap with a ballpeen will do. We have mysterious state troopers pulling people over to get them to meetings. Doesn't anyone own a pager 20 years from now? Why is everything so contrived? Why is the US getting involved in a war that seems to affect absolutely no one on this continent? For that matter, why are the British involved? And the coup de grace for the believable factor comes with a missle attack in the Suez Canal that should leave the American Admiral in chains as a war criminal. Where is the public outcry, the press wanting to know just what the hell is going on?

I don't mind suspending belief to read a good story. I just expect that story to have some sort of basis in plausibility.

As far as the characters go, all I will say is, no one who is a main character in these books seems to be able to die. Good guys, bad guys, it's all the same. They can survive darn near anything, and we are expected to accept that.

Mr. Dimercurio, I have wasted my last dollar on you.

Summary: DiMercurio, your the man!
Review: As a reader of the complete series of DiMercurio book's, I could not wait to get my hands on a copy and I must say it did not dissapoint. I just could'nt put it down, in fact I read it in just two nights. I have reread it twice since then. I have always longed to be on a nuclear submarine and find Michael's books put you right on the deck. The plot was great and the book flowed nicely. All I have to say is Michael, keep them rolling out!

Summary: Great Read
Review: DiMercurio delivered another page turner and established Pacino's son as a means of continuing the legacy. If you enjoyed his previous work - you'll certainly enjoy Terminal Run.

Summary: DiMercurio is the best
Review: Do you want to know what it's like to be aboard a nuclear attack sub? Have you ever wondered what it might be like to command man and machine acting as one in combat? Can you think of anything more terrifying than being on the business end of an enemy torpedo? Can you imagine what it smells like on a sub packed with 90 men, 500 feet below the surface of the ocean? If you really want to know the answers to questions like these then you have to read Michael DiMercurio's books. I have read all seven of them several times and I can tell you that DiMercurio is the best of the best. He has no rival as an author of submarine warfare novels. No other author writes with such authenticity and imagination. Terminal Run starts fast and furious and will leave you guessing what comes next until the last page. If you feel the call of the sea and have the heart of a warrior then you have to buy Terminal Run. Quite simply, it will leave you speechless and take you into a world few of us will ever know.

Summary: The Devilfish AGAIN?
Review: For the most part I have enjoyed this series by Michael Dimercurio. But this latest book is just the same thing as the last. It's still a good book to read as it continues with the story but don't expect a lot of new twists

Summary: Two Pacinos, better than one!
Review: I am a big fan of this series, and Mr. DiMercurio has not failed to keep me hooked with his latest installment. "Terminal Run" is a highly character driven and action packed novel that doesn't let you go until the last page. The twist that he throws at the end is unpredictable, and innovative for a book of this genre.

There are a few authors, like John Sandford with his "Prey" novels, that can keep continuing characters, and the situations that they face, fresh and unique to the prior books in their series. Mr. DiMercurio is one of those who able to accomplish this difficult task. His main characters age and have careers that are realistic. They are also not omnipotent and without flaws.

He is also able to tweak your imagination with the potential capabilities of future military hardware. The hardware is not perfect, and goes through a real-world evolutionary growth process. It truly makes you wonder what equipment the Navy is carrying on our new Seawolf class and upcoming Virginia class submarines.

My only disappointment in reading "Terminal Run" is that I have to wait for his next installment. As with all of this novels, this book is a stand alone. There are brief mentions to storylines in his previous books, but they are not spoilers. Once you give this book a read, you will find yourself ordering the prior six books in this series.

Summary: one of the worst!
Review: I have read all of this author's work to date, this is by far the worst! I suppose if you'd never been aboard a submarine, and/or were a Women's Rights Advocate, or a techno geek you might like it, but...

Within a few pages we are introduced to "power women", SEALS, Officers aboard submarines, etc., even carrier based air squadron commanders. The hero here, son of the previous hero, is Patch Jr., a midshipman at Annapolis. Within a few minutes of reporting aboard a submarine at New London, he is given the "con" (as in command of the ship) to get her underway by pulling a daredevil driving stunt...this would never, ever happen. Within a few days of being at sea, he is sleeping with the engineering officer (a great argument against women on submarines)...and the techno stuff gets so confusing eventually you simply want to give up trying to follow any of the concurrent plots.

This one is a waste of time, effort and brain cells!

Summary: Subs & Sex
Review: I read TERMINAL RUN slowly and deliberately. What a treat. Every character was so real, the story line intriguing and the details vivid (you actually "rig for dive"). I fell in love with the new characters and ached for the trusted friends of the 'Pacino' books. Each chapter left me deeply involved and there were times I found myself laughing out loud or actually crying (all this in a sub book). DeMercurio actually shares 'the secret' ... the true lovers in the armed forces are Submariners not 'Fly Boys'. The sex is intense and leaves you aching for more.

I enjoy reading and watching the submarine genre books and movies. Many people write and produce them but only a few do it right. DiMercurio is one of the Masters. The details of each dive, the attention to an actual cruise is amazing. I have never (outside of Disneyland) cruised in a sub however I feel as if I've been around the world underwater with Pacino and his crews. Thank you DiMercurio and keep on writing!
