Summary: Strange, yet fascinating
Review: Another winner from surrealist author Carlton Mellick III. This a strange, bleak, and utterly weird tale has everything you would expect from the master....psuedo-horror, sci-fi, twisted religion, and dark satire. Throw in some dirty humor, and you have one crazy ride! Recommended.

Summary: Strange, sometimes silly, and somewhat stupid
Review: One of the least appealing stories that CM3 has written. I couldn't figure out what the meaning of it was, other then a rampant romp through a weird reality where cloned creatures are kept as pets. Strange, sometimes silly, and somewhat stupid - this story is all about just being a story for story sake (unlike CM3s other novels). Not one of his better works.

It wasn't what I had expected it to be. Written in under the guise of a "fairy tale", I found that for the most part, the nonsensical interactions the characters had with each other seemed a little too absurd for my liking.

I came across this little story after reading his other works, and was pleasantly dissappointed. Maybe I just need to read it again, but unlike his other works, I didn't feel any connection to the story, nor understood if there were any subtexts or themes within.

Who knows, maybe it's just my brain running out of my ear and pretending to be just a jelly sandwich.

Summary: Creatively Insane
Review: The Baby Jesus Butt Plug is a short illustrated fairy tale with a kid's book kind of feel. Only, instead of happy gumdrop unicorns square-dancing around a chocolate waterfall, The Baby Jesus Butt Plug is about a weird future world where mutant Baby Jesus clones are used for anal sex. After a young married couple buy a Baby Jesus clone from a Baby Jesus breeder, they soon discover there is something wrong with it. Something demonic. Who ever thought an author would use an evil Baby Jesus as the villain in a book? It goes in some other crazy directions as well. I highly recommend getting this whether you are a Carlton Mellick fan or not. You'll never read anything like this anywhere else.

Summary: A fairy tale? What the f*ck!!!
Review: This book was so f**ked up!!! It's the craziest book ever written!!! I loved every minute of it!! It's funny as hell but a horror story at times. I can't describe it other than it's like a dream. It will go from goofy to sexual or scary to sad without warning. The whole thing is really original. There's no one else that I know who writes like this. The drawings are cute and disturbing at the same time. It's not a fairy tale but kind of looks like a kid's book for adults. If you're a fan of Carlton Mellick III you won't be disappointed!

Summary: Vertigo Conducive
Review: You know that feeling you get when you walk to the edge of a skyscraper window 100 stories up and put your forehead against the glass (and just for a second you feel like the glass might give and you'll go toppling head over heels to the pavement) and your belly starts to swirl and rise towards your throat and you get light headed?

That's the feeling of this book, from page one. There's some nasty business, some big laughs, and an overall sensation of things being wrong in the best way. But what you might not expect (amidst the melting clones, abstract sex, and zombie carnage) is the strange poignancy of the final pages that make this more than a surreal jerk-around.

This is a headsquisher of a book.

Summary: Much more than just shock lit
Review: You would think a book called "The Baby Jesus Buttplug" would be nothing more than an exercise in shocking hardcore Christians. Think again. The premise might be something too risque even for an episode of South Park, but once you get past the idea of Baby Jesus clones used as sex toys you will find an intelligent satire on the hopeless suburban mindset. From corporate slavery to infants kept as pets, dehumanization is the underlying theme throughout this surreal yet entertaining short novel. Fun, smart, and imaginative, with the usual flesh eating zombies thrown in for good measure. Seriously, this is an exceptional read for anyone with an open mind. Not to mention it is disturbingly guised as a children's book illustrated with horrifying doll-like cartoon characters. If you have never read Carlton Mellick III, this is an excellent place to start.
