Rating: Summary: The only title that could truly fit this book Review: What can I say about the book Mumbo Jumbo by Ishmael Reed. This book is interesting, and entertaining if you can stay with it. If I didn't need to read this book for a English class, I'm not sure I would have stuck with it. Although, I must say that when the book is done it does all come together. Many characters are introduced at the same time and Reed jumps about time periods without warning. Through out the book Ishmael gives you a touch of something that makes sense, but through most of the book the title fits it perfectly. The book is centered around 2 groups. Most of the Africans are trying to keep the Jes Grew alive and known to future generations, but the Atonists, the other group want to stop the Jes Grew. The book does make great points though about western culture and the adaptation of Africans into this culture and there struggle for their own identity. If not for the direction of my professor I'm not sure I would have fully understood all that Reed was trying to convey. But if you have the patients to read this book I would recommend it.
