Rating: Summary: Good story !!! Review: Although not an initial page turn, this is a good read ! If you pick it up and think it is moving kind of slow, stick with it. I read her husband's book: Raising Fences and was curious about her writing since he mentioned in his book that she was writing this book. Job well done for a first novel. I am looking forward to reading Selah's Bed.
Rating: Summary: This book was sooooo good! Review: I haven't read a book this good in a long time! It was different from any other book I have ever read. I started reading it and couldn't put it down! I took it everywhere with me--work, school, to the salon and even fell alseep with in my hand every night. I HIGHLY recommend this book! You'll love it from the first page to the last!To the author, you must write another one...possibly a sequel to this one! You are now on my favorite author list. P.S. I hated Eva. Glad I don't have a sister like her!
Rating: Summary: My first time reading this author Review: I read it but like Sela Bed didn't really remember the story, just thought it was kind of interesting but not not a memorable book.
Rating: Summary: Good read Review: I really enjoyed reading Resurrecting Mingus. Throughout the book I could feel every emotion that the characters were going through. The only thing that bothered me in the book was Mingus's constant reference to her period. I found it quite distracting at times that the author would put so much emphasis on describing the character's period in such great details. The ending could have been different but it didn't take too much away from the story since it was so well written and interesting.
Rating: Summary: 3 Stars Because I finished it in two days... Review: I was looking forward to this book. I had never heard of the author, but I do enjoy reading books by new authors. Resurrecting Mingus was a complete letdown. Like others have said, loose ends ruined this book for me. The way she hooked up with that guy was too bogus for me...seemed like the author just wanted her to end up with a black man. I didn't see how he was better for her than the white officer. I actually was hoping that something would come out of that moreso than with the black guy. I just finished reading this book two days ago, but it is easily forgettable. This book was a debut, so hopefully the second time around will be better.

Rating: Summary: Fantastic Debut Novel! Review: Resurrecting Mingus was a book that I wasn't really sure if I wanted to read or not. I've read interracial books before and I was thinking this would be a rehash. In any case, I figured that I'd give it a try anyway and I'm extremely glad I did since I was hooked from the first page! I loved the story and I love the writing. Mingus had a lot of issues to deal with, but so did her mother, her father, and her sister. To have parts of the story told by the different characters was refreshing since it allowed the reader to better understand each one of them. One didn't have to have grown up in an interracial family to understand some of the pain that Mingus went through trying to "fit in". This is an excellent book by first time novelist Jenoyne Adams which is also one of my favorites of 2001.
Rating: Summary: A moving story . . . Review: Resurrecting Mingus was an excellent book. Author Jenoyne Adams crafted a wonderful novel about Mingus Browning, a successful lawyer who struggles to keep herself from falling into a bottomless pit of depression as she attempts to deal with being jilted by her boyfriend, the recent news of her father's infidelity, and her witch of a sister, Eva. On top of all that, Mingus struggles with the issue of her identity, along with her strained relationship with her black father, and white mother. This book flowed with a poetic cadence that moved you from beginning to end. Jenoyne Adams, you did your thing! Keep the pen flowing, my sista!
Rating: Summary: A New Twist; A New Classic Review: This book introduced some new perspectived on interracial relationships. But that's not all. It's simply a great book! I was very engrossed in the story, and felt as if I were myself a part of the book. I felt all of her emotions. A must read.
Rating: Summary: Finally a story that isn't like all the others Review: This was my first book written by Ms. Adams, and I have to say that I like her writing style. The book caught my eye from the first page up until the last. When Mingus cried, I wanted to cry. The whole situation with her mother trapping her father into marrying her was messed up. The situation where she had a little sister because her father cheated was even more messed up. Her relationship with her sister also was a problem, but the situation that takes the cake is when her sister and her boyfriend have an affair. I know they didn't have sex, but still. He cheated, even thought not intentionally, and her sister, her flesh and blood, did that to hurt her. I felt Mingus was really strong in the end. It seems that she finally had her head on right and was going to start looking after herself. And that's always good to read about. All in all, the book was an excellent read.
