Rating: Summary: Similar to "Waiting to Exhale." Review: African-American sisters Beverly, Charmaine, and Evelyn have a lot going for them--looks, intelligence, and education, but they still have trouble finding a good man. Beverly is single and seems to find fault with every man that she dates, Charmaine is married to a man who takes no responsibility around the house, and Evelyn's perfect marriage to an attorney is beginning to break down under the strain of their separate ambitions. They all want to get ahead in life and have a loving relationship with a man and that seems difficult to do. This book is a very entertaining read and makes the reader feel like a fourth sister looking in on a family who laughs and cries together and sometimes fights, but always ends up supporting one another.
Rating: Summary: This is the kind of book that keeps you up all night ! Review: I am not exaggerating when I say that I literally could not put this book down. The beginning starts off a bit slow, but only because the author uses the first couple of chapters to introduce the characters and their life experiences individually, which really helps you to understand them later. Although the sisters sometimes display bitterness and jelousy, it is obvious that they have genuine love and compassion for one another. No matter what they say or do, they only want to help. I also liked this book because Connie Briscoe (Author) does not completly bash the men. She displays the black men in both a positive and negative light. This book even explores controversial issues such as interacial dating. Overall this is a excellent book worth your time and money!
Rating: Summary: Similar to "Waiting to Exhale." Review: I like this book better than "Waiting to Exhale." Not to say "Waiting to Exhale" was not good, it was the bomb. But I like "Sisters and Lovers" better. Even though Beverly was my favorite character in the book because I could relate more to her, she kind of got on my nerves of how she was being so picky with the men she was involved with. Other than that, it was a good book.
Rating: Summary: Sisterhood Review: I loved this book. Having no siblings myself it gave me a true look at sisterhood. Briscoe looks at 3 sisters who all have their share of problems but pettiness and pride keeps them from reaching out to one another for love and support. This book really makes you think about how we treat our family and weather we truly value what we have.
Rating: Summary: The Talk of The Town Review: I started reading this book, and because of other things happening in my life, I had to stop and restart. I must say that this was a good piece of work. I related to these ladies and their everyday issues. I think that it was good how Connie gave all three sisters a different lifestyle from one another, it kind of added a bit of spice to the story.jnb
Rating: Summary: Sisters and Lovers Review: I thought the book was an easy read and everyone, no matter race, religion, or background could identify with one, if not all, of these sisters. I found that once I started reading it, it was hard to put down.
Rating: Summary: Realistic, Positive, Human Review: Sisters & Lovers is very realistic, Connie's style is slow and easy, but she was right on with the siters. I found the relationship between them so true it was comical. They were so frank and somtimes hard on each other, but behind all of the differences they cared for each other. I was glad to see that the men in the lives of the three sisters, were not chasing other women and were not abusive. Kevin and Vernon did not handle old love interest in the best way, but they were both genuinely honest. Charmaine needed to kick Clarence to the curb. The ending was a little soft. I would have love to visit again with Vernon and Beverly. But I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I also read and enjoyed 'Big Girls Don't Cry'.
Rating: Summary: Something to talk about Review: Unfortunately I've not read many Connie Briscoe books, however, the two I've read so far (this one and 'A Long Way from Home,')would encourage me to read more. I'm looking forward to receiving my copy of P.G. County. Nonetheless, after reading Sisters and Lovers I did come away with some laughter and a few reality checks. I thought the three main characters (the sisters) were very believable, funny, and ultimately supportive of each other. I only wish the one sister, Charmain, had been a little more independent and not determined to hold on to a 'man,' even a bad man. The book is definitely worth reading (great for reading on subways or buses or any long ride) and as a member of a book club here in Washington, DC it does give you something to talk about. And also coming from a large family of eight girls I can relate.

Rating: Summary: I was surprised... Review: Usually I go for the mysteries where people die and things happen that will keep me scared and up all night. I picked this book by luck. It happened to be based in the area I've lived all my life and thought I'd give it a try. Turns out this book kept me up all night, not scared, but waiting to find out what was going to happen next. I enjoyed it and think you might also.
