Summary: sounds too good to be true
Review: As a serious Phan, I have to say my love for the character sometimes blinds me to make fair judgement. This book tells a story extremely unrealistic, but yet you want to believe in it. So let's call it "convincing". A modern Erik, with a perfectly described solitude character, quiet and gentle, but also dangerous and passionate at the same time. I just think things go too well for him it's just unbelievable, this Marisa (Christian character) LOVED his face, LOVED everything about him. It's not a battle of keeping her, but a battle of convincing himself this "too good to be true" love, which Marisa has offered with all her heart and soul, was within his reach all the time. Well, I feel it's very idealism and it's like a drug, take you away from reality for a few hours while you read it, wishing you were part of that world and then close the book and back to reality. I recommend this book to any phan, who wish to look at the character from a different perspective.

Summary: Just Great!
Review: I read the book twice already and love it even more now. Its wonderful to forget the reality of life and travel to Marisa's perfect and kind world where she sees everyone for their inner beauty. Buy it, its well worth it!

Summary: Not worth the trouble
Review: I read the book...and regretted it afterwards.
This book has very little in the way of plot. I was re-reading Phantom of the Opera (leroux) at the time and couldn't even bare to touch Night Magic after I was through with it.
Erik is no where near the complicated and intelligent character we have come to know and love in both the musical and the novel, Marisa is a poor excuse for a Christine-wana be. It reads like a bad fanfic, Erik's disfigurement is no obstical were it should be, the only 'bump' in the road of this book really was the fact that Marisa wanted a child. If all you want is some sort of lesser Phantom gets the Girl, then this is it. If you haven't read PoTO then you might enjoy this. But for any true Phan it is deeply dissapointing and you sincerly wish that the one and only Erik would sweep in and kill them all by the end of it.

Summary: An Awsome Book
Review: It's a kind of mixture of Beauty and the Beast and The Phantom of the Opera. Marisa is a 17 year old girl who falls in love with a 31 year old man her father asked to remodel their kitchen and bathrooms. His name? Erik, of course! He starts giving her music lessons, they start sleeping together... well, nevermind. But it's a really good book, and the character's are really interesting and complex. I would highly recommend this book to any Phantom "Phan"!

Summary: "Night Magic" says it all.
Review: The title of this book pretty much describes my review.
It was pure magic.
I am a huge Phantom of the Opera Phan and have read many of the various books out there on the subject as well as most of the only Phiction written by people like me, and I've even written a few myself. This book is high on my list of favorites.
Allen tells the story in a modern setting, which I had never seen before. This made the book entrancing for me. I could not put it down.
Many Phantom Phans don't like it because it is a modern story with modern themes, but I still see the beautiful story of The Phantom of the Opera under the modern glaze.
It is fascinating to read this book and draw comparissons to the origional story and novel. As you read you can picture the characters perfectly, even with the more modern appearances and descriptions. Allen transports the age-old story into a modern setting without disregarding any detail.
Pure Magic, a must read for any Phan

Summary: Terrible, terrible book....What was she thinking?!?!?!?!?!?
Review: This book is absolutely horrible. Please!!!! the whole Marisa/Erik thing just doesn't work! This is one of the most dismal forms of "phan fic" (if you can call it that) that I have ever read! I HATED this book! It's as bad, if not worse, than "Phantom of Manhattan". Erik is hired by Marisa's father to do some renovation/designing on their house...he falls for the teenage girl of the house, they have sex, get married, Marisa wants a baby but Erik doesn't (they fight about birth control, etc)...This book is nothing more than mere romance/smut/domestic crap with a "Phantom of the Opera" flavor to it(probably in hopes of boosting sales...slap a mask on anything and it'll sell these days....)
The Marisa character is more annoying than Christine in the original Phantom of the Opera novel....She's, first of all, underage (Marisa is 17 and Erik is 31!), extremely manipulative, immature...the list goes on!
Oh, and the "we did it" scene after Erik & Marisa had sex....the whole thing is like: "gag me with a spoon, totally"!....*gack* OH! please, please, please...Make it stop! This book actually got published? The main male character may be named "Erik" in this story...but this is NO Phantom novel! I would strongly suggest that others not buy this book...or, if you MUST have it for your "Phantom of the Opera library" buy it as cheap as you possibly can! HORRIBLE book....I am sorry for the ranting, but this book is nothing but a modernized romance novel with the main character being passed off as The Phantom.

Summary: Night Magic is a gem
Review: This book leaps to life....Charlotte Vale Allen stuns me with Night Magic....that love recognizes no boundaries....not age, not looks, not even death. I applaud Charlotte loudly for this exceptional fairy tale book. It is the best book I've ever read!

Summary: Joyful Break From Reality
Review: This is one of my favorite Phantom of the Opera retellings. All though Risa might seem less mature then Christine I love the twists that are in the book.I fine it very well written with th characters for a modern day aproache atmoshpere and is ogles with romance.

Summary: The Ending Erik Deserves
Review: This is the way I always thought "The Phantom of the Opera" should end. However, I'm not thrilled about the way Allen gets to the ending. The character of Erik is perfectly portrayed, though I'm a little lost as to why Allen changed everyone's name except his. But he is a very endearing, caring man who truly loves Marissa (Christine) with all his heart. I have to admit, I wanted to strangle Marissa at several points in the novel - she can be very (I know this is not the right word) ditzy, and I think that Erik deserves someone better.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. It was kind of cheesy sometimes, but in a romantic way. I felt myself cheering on Erik, and being thoroughly happy with the outcome.

Summary: A Huge Dissapointment
Review: When I read the synopsis and saw both Beauty and the Beast and the Phantom of the Opera, I thought it would be perfect for me and settled down for a good cry. I was so wrong! I could tell by the 2nd chapter it wasn't quite there, and the whole book left me pretty much void of emotion except for dissapointment. I felt sympathy for Erik about once in the book and grew tired very fast of the lengthy speeches made. Read it if you want but don't expect much.
