Summary: Rita Mae Brown does not disappoint
Review: After falling in love with the Mrs. Murphy series I found out that author Brown has a "real life" as a bonafide novelist and a darn good one at that. Brown's characters are so real that I wanted to join Cig in her out of this world adventure. Once again Brown masterfully produces an unusual plot and story line that engage the reader. She carries through the story with skill to the very end. Very enjoyable!!!

Summary: Riding Shotgun
Review: Being more used to this author's mystery novels, I was expecting something along the same lines with this one. Granted there are elements of mystery here but the primary themes of the novel are love and the many forms it can take, the importance of forgiveness, and just keeping life in perspective.

The main characters were well developed, particularly the seventeenth century ones.

Above all, this was a fun book. Give it a go.

Summary: I loved this book!
Review: I have been a fan of Rita Mae Brown's for a long time and I particularly enjoyed this book. Its an interesting story with very "real" and well-defined characters that seem like old friends by the time you've finished reading. I was intrigued by the storyline and could not put this book down. If Ms. Brown writes a sequel I'll buy it the minute it hits the shelves! Also, if you like horses you will really enjoy this book too.

Summary: Riding Shotgun
Review: If the dunce from Kirkus Reviews had actually read Riding Shotgun, he would have learned that the reason Cig is named "Cig" is because one of her middle names is "Chesterfield".

Brown has the talent of writing stories which move, without being intense. Her knowledge of and attention to detail, both period and equestrian, are rewarding. She stretches a little to make the story of "Riding" hang together, but it's such an entertaining story, the reader is quite willing to stretch with her.

Summary: An Enjoyable Trip
Review: Ms. Brown has written a fine, vivid novel. She opens up several different plot elements and intricately weaves them together. She does this with the most sucess in the second part of her book. However, the third part is a bit short, and Ms. Brown seems to try to tie up all the loose ends of her story rather hastily. The main character, Cig, is well developed, except why she gains an extremely forgiving nature is not well explained. The hunt scenes are executed beautifully and acurately. These are the best parts of the novel. They convey action and emotion all at once. This book is a fine read, but I wish Ms. Brown could have explained certain events and characters more clearly.

Summary: Witty, thought provoking, well written.
Review: Rita Mae Brown has done it again! Already well loved for her charming Mrs. Murphy murder mysteries, this clever author takes her readers into a superbly crafted plot and back into time. Cig Blackwood is a modern twentieth century widow, cynical, tired, weary of the ratrace her life has become. This unexpected journey shows her another way of life, and most importantly, another pace of life. Rita Mae Brown takes us along with her endearing heroine from the fox hunting field of 1996 back to 1699 and the handsome Irishman who is waiting for her. Warm, often hilarious, very human, this is a book that refuses to be put down. Don't start this one unless you've got a long leisurely evening ahead! It's a winner.

Summary: A Lot of Fun
Review: The period scenes are marvelous, as are the vivid descriptions of fox hunting etc. But Cig, the title character, was thoroughly unlikeable to me. Her treatment of her daughter sent chills down my spine. This woman was so totally selfish and self absorbed that by the end of the book I found it difficult to care what happened to her! Also, while the book was excellent in parts, it definitely dragged in others mainly because (as one reviewer has already pointed out), there was a lot of prior novel plot/dialouge rehashing. Not one of Rita Mae's best.....

Summary: Wonderful
Review: This is another fast read by Rita Mae Brown. This is a non-mystery book set in the usual Virginia foxhunting country. A widow under alot of stress somehow is transported back to the Virginia of her ancestors and a really interesting story goes on from there. The characters are quirky and real and the story really moves. Very entertaining!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent read
Review: What's not to like - you have the Virginia countryside, animals, romance, and reincarnation?/past-life regression! Interesting lead character in unusual situation. Food for thought.
