Night of the Knives (Executioner)

Summary: Juuuuuuuuust a bit outside!
Review: I had the same problem with this book that I've had with other Executioner efforts from Chuck Rogers. (I really with the true authors would be included on the cover of these things; jeez, nobody pretends all Star Trek novels were written by Gene Roddenberry ... ah, another rant for another time...). The pacing is tight, the action sequences inventive and exhillarating, keeping you on the edge of your seat ... Bolan actually gets *hurt*, something quite refreshing ... although it's almost taken to the other extreme, where credibility is stretched too far as to the likelihood of his survival ... But when you find out what's really going on with the villlains ... arrgh! it's such a cliche, such an easy and overused answer ... it just made my throw my hands in the air with frustration. Sure, the problem does exist in the real world, but that doesn't make up for what I perceive as authorial laziness. It's really a shame, too, because without that anti-climax the book would've garnered five stars from me instead of the four. <Shrug> Ah well, another day , another Bolan novel...

In summation, if you're just now getting into the Executioner series, this would be a good one to start with ... but read it for the well-written action scenes and the great and often quipppy dialogue, because what starts off as having great potential for promising intrigue will probagbly leave you cold in the end.
