Rating: Summary: A Bloodless Coup Review: A must read for all freedom loving liberterians who are concerned about our freedoms. Boston lays out the plans for a 'new' free state in an entertaining novel. Boston can get very technical with the facts and figures, but its still a good read. I would liked to have seen a little more character development on some of the minor players, but I still liked the storyline.
If you liked Rawles' Patriots or Bracken's Enemies, then I believe you'll like Boston's newest tome.
Rating: Summary: A great read, and incentive to take action Review: After writing fine, pro-liberty non-fiction for over a decade, Boston's first work of fiction is a definite winner. While I personally liked "Unintended Consequences" a bit more (sorry, KR), I do think it's superior to the other books of this genre that I've encountered, such as "Patriots" and "Let Us Prey" - both excellent books, as well. Plus, at less than half the physical size of "Consequences", it's a much less intimidating introduction to liberty to offer those sheeple who might be "on the fence." As did other reviewers, I bought multiple copies so that I can loan them out, and spread the word more quickly. And some of the folks that I loaned to have already bought their own copies, so it's working!
I hope Boston has plans to write more of this sort.
Rating: Summary: Speechless - utterly speechless!! Review: As a newly "re-born" libertarian, and reading book after book on constitutional history, conspiracy, Federal Reserve history, U.N. domination, etc..etc.. very few books, much less current events (wink wink), "shock" me anymore, however "Molon Labe!"....absolutely did. (and I'm only 2/3 through the book) As a matter of fact, this is one of the few books that actually gave me "hope" regarding our future.
This book made me laugh out-loud one minute and yet I shed a tear or two at other points in the story.
If you "value" and understand the freedom that comes with "freedom", libertarian or not, this book is for you.
After reading Boston's Gun Bible I finally had a broad foundation in the understanding of firearms, which helped quite a bit in reading this book. Also, before you can "completely" enjoy Molon Labe!, I highly recommend you read his book "Hologram of Liberty" as well as his afore mentioned "Gun Bible". Furthermore, if one has a modicum grasp of Federal Reserve history, basic rights under the Constitution, the Council on Foreign Relations, 16th Amendment, IR5, and even Quigley's "Of Tragedy and Hope", SO many underlying themes come to the surface.
I cannot say enough about this book...brilliant! brilliant!
Entertaining, very well written, challenging, educational(almost too much so at some points), moving, and chock full of appropriate Libertarian/Conservative thought AND action!
Rating: Summary: The First "Free State Project" Novel Review: Boston T. Party, a notable author of well-respected works on firearms and the Constitution, creates his first work of fiction with the novel Molon Labe! While it's certainly not formatted as a conventional novel, Molon Labe! is a worthy addition to any freedom-lovers book shelf. Set in the coming decades, it's a chronicle of the "Wyoming Free State Project," where thousands of liberty-seekers migrate to that state to control the government and turn it into a bastion of freedom. The novel is interspersed with commentaries and "interview" format chapters, which sometimes overshadow the narrative. Still, this is the first of what is bound to be a new genre of libertarian literature, and will be much referenced in the future as such scenarios become increasingly likely.
Rating: Summary: A Must Read.... Move this to the top of your "wish list" Review: Having read allot of the futuristic, apocalyptic, and survival; as well as historic type non-fiction and novels (and finding them wanting),I was pleasantly suprised with Boston's first fiction work. Technical writers are not often great novelists it seems. But,while I would still urge that his "Gun Bible" be your first purchase if you have ANY interest in firearms (and have a limited budget),I can honestly say that Molon Labe is one of those "can't put down" type of books you'll be happy you purchased, and like myself will probably buy additional copies for others. Engaging both from a technical and story-line perspective, the book develops characters well and simultaneously acts as a treatise for finding/making/keeping a place where freedom reigns...and Government is in REALITY "by and for" the people.
Boston in the novel points out the loss of freedom in the US that has slowly crept in. The over regulation and Gestapo legalities that have encroached upon our daily lives. Every lawmaker should read this book. Every judge. Every citizen even remotely concerned with eroding freedom. It influences and "wakes one up" to our need for a formal effort toward a Laisse-Faire type reform or option in government. It should wake up the government to the result of freedom loving people pushed to the limit of their patience.
My only complaint with Molon Labe was that it "ended". There'd better be a sequel!
I am planning on purchasing the more of Boston's books as a result of reading this novel.
Rating: Summary: Glad to admit I was wrong Review: Having read most of Boston's other work I was more than a little skeptical when I first heard about his foray into fiction. Boy was I wrong. It was a great read and once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. Molon Labe is full of the same insight and humor that you've come to expect from his other works. So YES!, Boston CAN write fiction! (Leaving the only question "When's the sequel?". I can't wait to catch up on the continuing adventures of "the panther").
Rating: Summary: A Gripping Future History... Review: I enjoyed "Molon Labe" immensely. If you enjoy tales of fighting for liberty, or political intrigue, you might just lose some sleep staying up late to finish it!
Not as many pages as another great future history - Unintended Consequences - so the sleep deprivation isn't quite as bad! ;-)
Is de facto secession of an liberty-loving American state possible in today's world? What would ensue if it was tried? Molon Labe presents a suspenseful and believable future history.
This isn't an implausible James Bond style fantasy, where the suspension of disbelief is required at the door. A lot of historical and technical detail is presented that puts a lot of otherwise extraordinary events in a context that makes perfect sense.
So, from the point of view of lightweight entertainment reading, you could criticize Molon Labe as being too much of a "non-fiction, fiction" book. If you're reading it on a lazy vacation at the beach, skip the page with the technical explanation of email encryption, and just stay on the plot - which is gripping.
Rating: Summary: Thought Provoking and Entertaining Review: In this book, Mr. Royce (aka Boston T. Party) lays out the blueprints for carving out a a safe haven for freedom in these increasingly restrictive United States. His arguments for a Wyoming based free state project as an alternative to the New Hampshire project are well thought out, and very solid in their logistics. He also provides the reader with a wealth of knowledge on encryption, fire arms, civics, and privacy while weaving an entertaining story. The only qualm I have with the book as a whole is his utopian view of what a libertarian Wyoming would look like. By their very definition, libertarians are head strong and individualistic. I would imagine that organizing them to the degree specified in this book would be something akin to herding cats. Also, while the citizens of Wyoming may be a freedom loving people, the majority of Americans are secretly terrified of not having government there to "help them out". While I hope I am wrong, I am not sure people would be so willing to take back their lives. Still, this is a solid first attempt at a work of fiction and is well worth the read. I''ll see you in Wyoming.
Rating: Summary: Another great book from Boston... Review: There are a few books that I have read more than once, and Molon Labe! is one of them. Wouldn't it be nice to live in a place where the hundreds of thousands of needless laws (firearm laws included) were a thing of the past? A place were you could actually live free? Wyoming just might be that place someday. Ya done good Boston, I think the Warrior King Leonidas would be proud of you.
Rating: Summary: A Must Read for free Americans Review: What would happen if a bunch of freedom loving Americans concentrated in Wyoming, and transformed the state political system to favor liberty? Well, an intriguing and suspenseful story for one thing! Hint, the federal government doesn't take kindly to a state government respecting and enforcing the entire Bill of Rights. Halfway between a political/espionage thriller, and a historical novel with documentation, 'Molon Labe' is a great read. If you think liberty is in precious short supply in this great land of ours, you'll be cheering.
