Summary: For the mother of all moms
Review: "No children would ever be born if one approached the whole subject with any kind of logic."
India Knight must be a mother. There is no other way she could have voiced such honest truths in this book of motherhood, marriage, and the endless carreer juggling.
"He made me a mother and I will always be grateful; he could murder me now and I'd still say thank you for that. But then he took something away from me: his desire; my old self."
For any wife, wondering who she married. For any mother who wouldn't trade it for the world. And for any woman who misses the girl she used to be... this book is for you.

Summary: Disappointing!
Review: I expected to love this book. I am a big fan of Bridget Jones, etc. and thought that this book would be a similar, fun read - only even better because it was about a married woman.
Unfortunately, I was wrong. I found the book boring. I also didn't care to read about Clara's husband's secretive bathroom habits, her children's nits, etc. At times the book seemed senselessly crude.
Bottom line: A total waste of time.
For a FUN read, try ASKING FOR TROUBLE by Elizabeth Young, instead.

Summary: decent
Review: I found this book was definitely a fast read, but the thing that annoyed me was Clara's view of herself. I mean, I have read books about women being overweight (Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner was a great one) and having body image problems, but it seems like all the character did throughout the whole book was complain about her weight and make cheap shots at herself. A few jokes would have been fine...but we get the point-she's a bit overweight...move on! There really was no solid plot to the story and I found that the book only started to pick up at the end. I would not say the book is terrible. There were some funny one liners and some situations that most women can relate to. I just think the story could have been more interesting.

Summary: Was promising but failed to deliver
Review: I started to read this book and I just loved the main character Clara. I loved her outlook on parenting, her honesty and her spunk. This book had some great one liners and out out loud moments.

In the end, I felt like the finish of the story was rather boring and nothing really good/exciting ever happened.

I really liked India Knight's writing style and humor with an edge. Although it wasn't the best story, it was still somewhat enjoyable in areas. Good for a quick read.

Summary: time to clear the table and wash the dishes
Review: i was somewhat disappointed with this novel. it seemed long and draggy at times. i guess after seeing the cover i was expecting it to be a lot more fun and not so downtrodden as it was.

clara seemed displeased with most of her life (right there was a downer). there were some funny one-liners throughout, however this was not as light and airy as i expected.

i found clara's relationship with her mother quite sad. her mother was a domineering, sarcastic, critical woman. clara tried hard to please her mom, but to no avail. i thought it was sad, as well, what happened to her and her husband. everybody seemed so complacent, but we found out differently.

for me the book started to pick up with about 40 pages left.

anyway, it was not a light read for me and i have decided to stick with only the hysterically funny novels, as life is too heavy as it is, and since i read for fun i don't need to read about it.

Summary: Waste Of Time
Review: I've had this book on my bookshelf for awhile, and finally decided to read it since I was in the mood for something light and quick. I am pleased to say that My Life on a Plate ended up being such fun to read. I thought the main character was hilarious, and her take on marriage and motherhood was as honest as it gets.

My Life on a Plate is more of a portrait than a novel. Author India Knight provides a winning character study of a wife and mother and the things that happen to her day-to-day. Clare Hutts is a part-time magazine writer who has been married to her husband, Richard, for the past eight years. And while their marriage doesn't seem so bad, Clare can't stop thinking that something is missing. Not kids -- they have two small boys -- and certainly not the fairy tale lifestyle -- financial security, a beautiful house, and working from home. Maybe it's the fact that Richard doesn't ever feed the boys breakfast, or perhaps it's because they aren't romantic anymore -- whatever the reason, Clare's journey throughout this novel is eye-opening at best.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Clare is a hilarious character, and her insights on marriage are as honest as they are funny. I felt the tone of the book was consistent throughout, and by the time the last page rolled around, I knew it couldn't end any other way. India Knight did an excellent job with this one, and I look forward to her future books.

Summary: A snickering good time
Review: India Knight introduces us to Clara Hutt, thirty three year old married, mother of two, with an interesting-ish job as a writer. Clara is bothered by the vague feeling that there is more to life than she has. Her mother is about to embark on husband number four, she bungles an important interview, and she is confronted by the body that has aged and borne two children. She tries to engage her husband in serious conversation about their marriage and love life. She tries to keep her two boys from killing each other, or just saying something too wildly inappropiate. She has a real life. Never whining, or morose, our Clara forges on, and discovers she still has plenty to offer. India Knight makes Clara and her life come alive with very believable dialog,( the book is worth a read just to experience Sammy, the two year old or the bikini wax appointment)and laugh out loud moments. I really enjoyed this book, found it a jolly good read.

Summary: how did this ever make it to paperback?
Review: My first Knight read and while I did enjoy it, I felt it should have had more to it. The writing is VERY funny and I laughed outloud several times. Clara comes across as an average housewife getting the kids on the schoolbus but her marriage is lacking, or so she finds out.

If you are looking for a light, funny read this one will satisfy you but don't be alarmed when the ending turns.

Summary: A clean plate and wanting seconds...
Review: This book is about what to do when you've already found Mr. Right. . . and life still isn't quite what you expected. I really liked the fact that the main character (Clara) isn't skinny, but an average slightly over-weight woman ~ one of the funniest and most true-to-life characters ever written.. These two components made me fall in love and identify with the story more. This book is guaranteed to brighten up your day and have you laughing again and again!
