Rating: Summary: Often imitated, never duplicated.... Review: As a huge fan of Jackie Collins, I was eagerly awaiting this novel. It was written in her distinctive style, which has been imitated often. I was a tad disappointed that the plot strayed so far from the original Hollywood Wives tome, but was happy to renew my aquaintance with some old friends...er, charcters. Thought the slang was a lttle overdone, however. I'm 22, and swear I don't speak like that! Was a great read for a true Jackie Collins fan, and one I know I'll enjoy reading again.
Rating: Summary: hurry up henry I AM GOING OFF THE BOIL Review: At last the world as a book to stand shoulder to shoulder with E F HARPERS ..GROWING , LOVING AND NEEDING YOUR GINGER BEER YEAST .From page one we are led by the nose ring into the erotic and often disturbing world, of the hollywood clay pipe collecters . By the end of chapter 7 I was convinced that the family next door but one, were all infact chipmonks in cunning disguise . You have done it again miss COLLINS ,now my feet are unwilling to translate the the works of HOMER for me . I for one look forward to her next book with baited fishing line .
Rating: Summary: Couldn't Put It Down Review: Granted, Jackie Collins is not the best writer in the world, and she doesn't pretend to be. Her characters are cliched and their dialogue is at times painful to read. What she does write here, however, is a juicy page turner, a delicious guilty pleasure. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next, and when I got to the end I was satisfied, yet sad that the adventure was over. This is definitely one of Collins' best novels in a long time. Still, nothing has been able to top the original Hollywood Wives for interesting characters, shocking surprises and jaw-dropping twists and turns.
Rating: Summary: A Fun Read Review: I had this book in my pile of books waiting to be read, don't know why I didn't get to it sooner. I loved all the characters in this book, I wanted so much for everyone to get what they wanted and the jerks to get what they deserve, the only complaint I have about this book is that the ending was to rushed but all in all a fun read.Happy Reading Lisa
Rating: Summary: Better than the first! Review: I read the first Hollywood Wives years back, but I do know that this one totally surpasses the first. It is the story about how wives in Hollywood are anxious to become big on their own, and how being an accessory for the man is no longer enough. Lissa is a big singer/actress (very much like Jennifer Lopez) who can't stay married, and is trying to divorce her psychotic husband number 4. Taylor wrote a script, and has an affair to try to get it onto the movie screen. Stella (playing an extremely minor role in the story) is a woman whose fertilized egg is in a surrogate mother, and it going to be passed as a completely natural birth. And then there's Nicci, Lissa's daughter, who is going to marry Evan, a successful movie producer, even though she would much rather marry his brother. And finally, there is Eric, who is plotting to kidnap Nicci, and put her up for ransom. It's a spectacular novel that will leave you wanting it to go on forever. And like Thrill! and American Star, there is a captivating romance between Lissa and her Policeman. Read this, and you won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: Glamorous and Glossy! Review: It may of been trashy, brainless, tawdry melodrama but I loved this book! Jackie takes all the stereotypes of Hollywood celebrities and throws them together into a glamor-packed soup of gossip and subplots! Like a 500-page tabloid! The characters are all true-to-form spoiled, self-obsessed divas. The goings on are appropriately scandalous. The many talents and many husbands, the wild rich kids, the gay followers, it's all here! The perfect Hollywood novel it may not have much substance but since that's what's expected of its subjects it's just perfect!
Rating: Summary: Not worth the read! Review: One of the reasons I've found Jackie Collins to be such an enjoyable author is that she creates memorable characters. Her novels, usually are loaded with characters that you'd like to know and those that you'd like to take down a few pegs.
Not so the case with HOLLYWOOD WIVES-THE NEXT GENERATION. The characters are boring, predictable, shallow, and totally not Jackie Collins.
Don't waste your money or your time.
Rating: Summary: A True Hollywood Story Review: Only Jackie Collins can get away with mixing Romance, Adventure and a Psychotic killer into a great book. The book started off slow but after awhile it picked up and I could not put the book down. I have always enjoyed reading her books and never been disappointed. This book would have gotten five stars from me, but the title did not fit the story line. I was expecting her to write on various Hollywood wives, like her first book, but she based the story around two women. This was the only thing that I did not care for. But after that, I would recommend the bookto anyone who enjoys reading Jackie Collins' novels.
Rating: Summary: Put yourself in their shoes! Review: This is the first Jackie Collins book that I have read in at least 5 years. It has been a long time and I can see what I have been missing. It was a quick, easy read and even though there is a little bit over 500 pages, I polished it off very quickly. I devoured the juicy details of the Hollywood lives that are depicted in this book. It was a definite page turner and I felt that Collins really brought the characters to life. At first, I was a little bit unsure if I would like the characters. But after awhile I felt myself sympathizing with almost all of them in some form or another. I am generally not attracted to this genre, but I must say that Jackie is a winner. I am once again hooked by her writing style and can't wait to reread the first one. This book will take you to LA behind the scences and take you to places that you usually only see in the movies!
Rating: Summary: Loose ends left untied Review: This was my first Jackie Collins book. I thought it moved quickly and I really enjoyed the characters. Take it from an avid reader; this story was really escalating until all of a sudden it's as if Ms. Collins just got tired of her own story. As you were expecting the climax of the plot it ended in a page; with a ridiculous epilogue of the demise of each character. ELEMENTARY!! It was an insult. I doubt I'll be reading another anytime soon!!
