Rating: Summary: A Very Good Mystery/Thriller Review: Andrew Neiderman has created an interesting world where pregnancy is illegal. It seems to be during an economic dry-spell as the government needs to subsidize everyone. Subsidies are withdrawn for an entire community if there are pregnancies. In this story we meet a young girl who has been found to be in possession of prenatal vitamins. A vigilante group known as the Baby Squad moves in to discover if the girl is pregnant and where the vitamins came from. The girl tries to convince her source to turn themselves in. An that is the beginning of the roller-coaster ride that is this book. At the heart of all this is State Investigator Ryan Lee, a man who was born naturally and without the genetic benefits of laboratory birth. He is a very interesting character and one of the better ones I have encountered in recent reading. He efficiently manages to uncover the web of deceit, cover-ups, and all sorts of pregnancy-related crime. I would probably have give this book five stars, but part of me really wanted to know how things had created such a world and just how children were really created. Diapers and bassinets are illegal so I really don't understand how people who apply and are approved for children actually get them. The one clue we get is that it seems there is some sort of accelerated growth as a couple who were recently approved now have a teenager. But even with a lack of background to the world, this is a very entertaining book. You will find yourself rooting for Ryan Lee and Natalie Ross while trying to figure out how it can be pulled off.

Rating: Summary: hope to see this one made into a movie... Review: Dark humor, quirky characters and metaphors up the wazoo that make you say, "I know what the author is getting at --and it's brilliant--!" I love this latest Neiderman book, "The Baby Squad." Social commentary on society's frayed seams is subtly interwoven into this suspenseful horror/science fiction tale that the reader knows all too well could someday happen... I would love to see this on the screen. Time for another Neiderman blockbuster movie, like "The Devil's Advocate." "The Baby Squad"...hopefully coming to a theater near you and me soon....OUTSTANDING!

Rating: Summary: Sf or science fact-you decide Review: In the not too distant future, becoming pregnant is almost impossible as all female newborns are given a vaccine to prevent their eggs from fertilizing. Children are conceived in a natal laboratory with only some of the DNA coming from the parents. People who were born the old fashioned way are called Abnormals and treated like second class citizens by the Natals who believe they are genetically superior. In the Catskills mountain town of Sandburg, Natalie Ross, an Abnormal passing for a Natal is six months pregnant and is using the underground to supply her with prenatal vitamins. The cleaning woman's high school daughter steals them and trades them to another high school girl. However, the vigilante group that polices the community to insure no Abnormals reside there, THE BABY SQUAD, catches the teen. The caught teen confronts the girl who gave her the prenatal vitamins and murder results. A state police officer from the CID division investigates and his queries set off a chain reaction that ends in another murder, exposure of corruption, and the revelation of other crimes. Is THE BABY SQUAD science fiction or a glimpse of what lies in store for the human race in the not too distant future? Each reader will make that judgment for themselves but in the meantime the audience is treated to a very exciting futuristic police procedural. Readers' hearts will go out to Natalie who becomes a victim of the system and a symbol of hope for humanity. Andrew Neiderman has written another winner that his fans will want to put on their keeper shelves. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: A GREAT THRILLER WORTHY OF HARDCOVER! Review: Okay, imagine a world where no one can have babies the "natural way" way. Instead all babies are created in a labratory where disease and imperfections no longer exist! Sounds pretty whacked, right? All the women in this book get surgery at a young age so that they are unable to become pregnant. But a few slip through... The baby squad is a group of ferocious women who track down suspected pregnant women. They are a fierce group of women because a great deal of government support is at stake when communities comply with the law - in other words no new populace unless it is created in the lab! The main villian -- Hattie -- is an unpleasant leader of the baby squad. It's exciting in the end when she meets her match! I won't review the book in detail per character or scene -- it's up to you to read it! -- but I want to comment on the quality of writing and the story. Both are EXCELLENT and this book really should have been published in hardcover. PocketBooks has a fine author here. It's as worthy as any Dean Koontz or Jonathan Kellerman thriller. So this book -- THE BABY SQUAD BY THE INCOMPARIBLE ANDREW NEIDERMAN -- is a must read. Order it today from the WONDERFUL Amazon.com! Keep up the great work in ALL your books, Mr. Neiderman, and this includes the books that you ghost write for that "other" famous author! :)
