Rating: 3 stars
Summary: lesser stuff
Review: After the stunning first three volumes and the complete Silver John stories in the upcoming fifth volume, this book represents the leftovers. By most standards they're great fun and only pale next to the other books. Still, a great collection made possible by the great folks at Night Shade. Also, the absence of the poor illustrations is only a plus.

Summary: Mixed bag
Review: The only real fault here is the lack of a connecting theme in the stories, some are Civil War tales, a few are Indian legends, and one even features Poe himself. All the tales are well written and interesting, which seems to be true of any Wellman stories I've read so far. "School for the Unspeakable" might be the best in this collection, along with "The Terrible Parchment" a neglected tribute to H.P. Lovecraft published just a few months after his death.
