Summary: Cute read...
Review: but didn't seem to have much more than a drag along plot. I love reading about friendships but I look for books with a little more depth and meaning! I do want to read the others though...

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: If I could give this book MORE than 5 STARS, I would
Review: Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous.

This must be one of Marian's best books written. I have read a couple of her books (Rachel's Holiday & Watermelon) and I was just blown away by this story.

I do love Marian's style of writing, but at first I was a little hesitant about reading this book because it wasn't about the Walsh family...

I am so glad I didn't follow through with my thoughts!! This novel gives insight to such an important purpose of everyday living that many people take for granted/ overlook- which is life itself; how we act, what we do with the talents we are given, and how we listen to our family and friends.

This novel is a must read. I never thought I could have been so touched by a book.

Summary: Pleasantly Surprised
Review: Having read "Lucy Sullivan" - and hating it - I was somewhat reluctant to pick up another Marian Keyes book. However, reviews were so favorable for "Last Chance Saloon" I thought I would give Ms. Keyes another go. Glad I did. As a 31 year old single female, I could well relate to Tara's feelings of "fine, he's horrid, but he's my last chance"; because that was my own justification for having stayed with a complete jackass for as long as I did. Believe it or not, my ex even pulled an Alasdair on me (the "I-want-you-back" one day and the "oh... forgot to tell you I met someone else" the next routine... devastating!) I could definitely relate to Tara's pain... because I had experienced it myself. Not only that, I even have a friend who's living with a "Thomas-type" who doesn't work yet feels her hard-earned money is his, acts like the world owes him something and constantly harps on her about her weight. I couldn't believe how real these characters were; I've MET them! Yes... Keyes really got it right this time. Additionally, I have had the same best friend since the second grade, so the concept of friends having grown up together and remaining close was relatable.

As no one really expects to wind up single-with-no-prospects at nearly 32, I could also relate to the character of Katherine who, having been burned many, many times, has decided to just leave well enough alone and put her emotions on the shelf. I'm sure there were few women reading this book who hadn't been burned at least once in the exact manner Katherine has by so many men (his frantic chase, his victory, his immediate loss of interest... woman dumped). And regardless of what other reviewers have said about the women portrayed in these "Brit Chix" books... no matter how old, or how mature you are (or think you are), you never stop waiting for him to call the next day.

Fintan's illness was, of course, depressing, although I felt that Keyes handled his spiraling emotions well, and was glad to see that, despite the fact that Fintan initially came off as the stereotypically requisite flamboyantly gay friend, he actually demonstrated depth. Keyes portrayed his relationship with Sandro with sensitivity and tact.

The only down side to this book was that the O'Gradys came off as such hicks (c'mon... never having heard of an elevator? That was a bit much), and I found the characters of Milo and Liv to be a superfluous and uninteresting diversion that the storyline easily could have done without.

Ahhh... and Lorcan. Unfortunately, there are men out there like him (believe me, I've dated most of them!), though his blunt cruelty was spread a bit thick and I found his convenient brushes with the lives of each character a bit too pat and coincidental to be truly believable. Nonetheless, Keyes tied his presence in well, and the scene between Lorcan and Joe at the commercial shoot was great.

Oh... and Joe? The only non-believable character of the plot. Sorry, Ms. Keyes, but neither I nor any of my friends have ever encountered a guy that great. He practically rolled over and fetched sticks for Katherine.

Overall, I was impressed with this book; I never expected to enjoy it as I did (I had bought it expecting a simple "beach read", no more, no less). In fact, I might even read some other Keyes novels. I just hope they're more like this than the horrid "Lucy Sullivan"!

As an aside... for all you women still searching for the stay-put lipstick, check out Yves Rocher's "True Color" line... stays like glue!

Summary: "You'll laugh, you'll cry...."
Review: I am a big fan of Marian Keyes and this book is probably one of her best. I could not put it down. While there were some low points in the characters' lives I thought that this made a more realistic story. I think that the characters went through things that everyone of us has gone through at some point or another in life. Excellent book, and not to sound tired and trite but "You'll laugh, you'll cry..."

Summary: Fantastic book!
Review: I enjoy Keyes books and felt that this one and Sushi for Beginners shows her best work. This book deals with some real life serous matters, but allows the reader to relate to the three main characters. A rather quick read, and especially good if you are currently dealing with a difficult situation in your real life.

Summary: Marian Keyes continues to rock my world!
Review: Last Chance Saloon--where a woman stands if she is over 30 and single, at least according to Tara, one of a small group of friends who have known each other since their days in a small town in Ireland. She has spent her adult life jumping from bad boyfriend to bad boyfriend and is presently with a really bad one. Thomas calls her a fat cow, monitors her candy consumption, and is generally nasty to her, "for her own good."
Tara's best friend Katherine is in a Last Chance Saloon of her own creation. Seriously devastated by a series of painful relationships, she creates an image of "Ice Queen" to avoid getting too close to love.
All of this changes when Fintan, their third best friend, faces catastrophe.
Keyes explores thoughts all women have had, from "Is this as good as it gets?" to "How hurt will I get by getting too close?", all with wit and humor. You will not be disappointed by Last Chance Saloon!

Summary: Wonderful, funny, entertaining....
Review: This book has it all, the funny sarcastic 30 something humour, the over inflated egos, the low self esteem-weight problem issues. But it has so much more, its not the situations that makes it an unique and interesting tale but the realistic way in which the characters face them. This book is about friendship and loyalty and about the things you do for your self and the ones you love when you realize how much you are worth. A MUST READ!

Summary: Fabulous, seriously
Review: This book is wonderful! Earthy humor, friendships, and on occasion, serious issues, which is why I wouldn't call it a "beach read".

Summary: Way Too Much Fun for One Book
Review: What can I say - Marian Keyes has done it again. She just keeps getting better. The trials, tribulations, good times and bad times of Tara, Katherine and Fintan - three old friends from Ireland now living in London - keep the reader enthralled page after page. Gentle, loving Tara with her possessive, overbearing miser of a boyfriend - who frankly, you want to slap about the head; ice-queen Katherine in total control of her life - or so it seems; and Fintan the delightful gay friend battling the biggest fight of his life. There are plenty of other characters to keep this book action-packed from beginning to end. I have now read every book Marian Keyes has written and can't bear to think about how long I am going to have to wait for the next one - but you can bet your life, I'll get it hot off the press!
