Rating: Summary: Not great . . . but good Review: I read this book to my seven year old son after reading the original Peter Ban by James Barrie. My son enjoyed most of the book . . . I found myself skipping over several of the Peter Pan and Tiger Lily encounters as I thought this inappropriate for a children's story and even took away from the innocense of childhood. My son enjoyed the "answers" to some of his questions from the original story and usually begged me to continue reading from it each night as we read one to two chapters each evening. I, on the other hand, thought it was "just okay" -- not as magical as it could've been. I would've liked to hear more details about the fairies and more of the "fun" of childhood and of playing games, etc. I would, however, recommend it to other parents of children who liked the original Peter Pan book or movie and who want some answers.

Rating: Summary: Just Plain Wrong Review: If Leatherwood would have done any amount of research, like say, oh, perhaps READING the original Barrie book, let alone "Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens" he would not have come up with this dopey, plot-holed book of lies. This book has so many discrepencies and errors that you wouldn't sit through the list if I typed them all out. On top of contradicting, it has silly original notions, for instance saying Captain Hook's original name was Captain Morgan (join me in some rum to help you forget this idea) and making Peter named after "THE Pan", an ambiguous poorly developed character that you never see. For some reason, he even thinks it is okay to tie in Spielberg's atrocity "Hook" as if it had any bearing on the classic tale. Absolutely awful. P.S. - I would have given this no stars, but at least one star is required to post.
Rating: Summary: An enjoyable page-turner guaranteed to evoke fond memories Review: What happened before Peter Pan met Wendy and her brothers? How did Captain Hook lose his hand? How did the Crocodile come to swallow a ticking clock? Based on the original adventures of Peter Pan by James M. Barrie, Neverland: The Early Adventures Of Peter Pan is a Peter Pan prequel written by R. Scott Leatherwood, in order to answer seventeen questions raised by the original classic and breathe further awe and wonder into the legacy of a timeless story. An enjoyable page-turner guaranteed to evoke fond memories and highly recommended to anyone who has ever dreamed of flying off to a land of adventures where they would never have to grow up.
