In SUPER SLEUTH: FIVE ALISON LEIGH POWERS MYSTERIES, Alison Leigh Powers teaches many lessons about sleuthing and being a preteen trying to grow up in today's world. This reviewer, having grown up on Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, fell in love with a new generation of mysteries with Ms. Kinman's stories.

Alison makes a wonderful main character with an inquisitive mind that helps bring the reader to the right conclusions as she searches for clues. Her insight into finding out the hidden secrets makes for a wonderful set of stories about an eleven-year-old sleuth. Alison and her friend are creative girls who give new meaning to the word curious! They keep the reader wondering about the mystery, as well as leave the reader wanting to learn more about their lives and what they have learned. Ms. Kinman has made this reviewer want to know more about the secret rooms for priests in England, as well as miniature books and other collectibles. Beyond Ms. Kinman's ability to create mysteries for young adults, she has a knack for keeping the reader interested, while teaching a lesson about horses or history. She makes learning fun, and gives a realistic enough feel to the story that the characters come alive.

THE MYSTERY OF THE MISSING MINIATURE BOOKS

Alison Leigh Powers, an eleven-year-old middle school student, wants to buy a horse. To make money to fund her desire, she offers to become her mother's assistant in cataloguing miniature books. As Alison discovers more about the books, she finds herself looking forward to working with them and getting to know the book owners. Mrs. Powers notices that a book she has already made notations on comes up missing and is horrified. Alison finds out that more than one book is gone, and is determined to find the person responsible for putting her and her mom's jobs in jeopardy. When Alison finds out who the culprit is? Will she tell on him, or find a way to get him to return the books?

THE MYSTERY OF THE MISSING ARABIAN

Alison finds a horse locked in an old house, and knows something is wrong, so she frees the Arabian. Upon returning to the stable, she dresses the wounds, and meets the horse's owner, who was thrown by the horse kidnapper. Melissa, the rider of the Arabian, was afraid she was in danger of being kidnapped, and does not realize her horse, Sultana, was the intended victim. After telling their tale to the police, Melissa and Alison fear the kidnappers return. Will they discover the identity of the bad guys and be able to help capture them?

THE SECRET OF THE EQUESTRIAN PARK

Alison and Melissa are out trail riding one day when they come across a rope tied across the trail. They race back to the stable to alert Mr. Dawson, the owner. Mr. Dawson finds the rope has been removed when he gets there, but can see the telltale signs on the trees. When other mishaps occur, both Mr. Dawson and Alison get into the sleuthing to find out who wants to see someone from the stable injured. Alison once again saves the day when she gets free of a sticky situation, but can she save the stable from the villain?

THE MYSTERY OF THE OCTAGON HOUSE

Every day on Alison's way home from school, she stops to look at a house shaped like an octagon. She is curious about the inside, and the man who lives there. Finding out the man has agoraphobia and will not leave his home just intrigues her more. When she disobeys her parents and knocks on the door, she finds more than she bargained for. Can Alison save the owner from harm?

THE SECRET OF THE STRANGE STAIRCASE

When Alison's friend Mitty shows her pictures of mansions from England, they discover the style of building secret rooms. They remember that the home Alison's mother is working in has similar staircases, and suspect it has a hidden room. As they uncover the architect who created the home, they find out that he was indeed a British man who came to the United States over a hundred year ago. They also learn that his wife, Maeve, disappeared and was never found. Can Alison find the truth about where Maeve went a century ago?

Summary: A real Page Turner !
Review: These stories held my interest, and I feel they will be exciting to young pre-teen girls.

By introducing the same characters in all these stories I believe young girl's aquaintance with them will create more interest.
