Rating: Summary: A Shamanic Classic Review: R Alan Fuller's description of shamanic initiation at the sacred site of Marcawasi is a classic in shamanic literature. To call it a "description" is actually a misconstruction. The reader IS there, experiencing the cold and the mystery, the discipline and the awesome revelations. Fuller's quest for understanding and initiation became my own. This reader emerged from reading those precious chapters wondering where the day had gone, and feeling like the lucky recipient of an other-worldly, transcendental, never-to-be-forgotten journey. To write with true understanding about the shamanic realm, an author must be a shaman. With humility and humor, insight and appreciation, Fuller clearly proves he earned the title.
Rating: Summary: A Grand Adventure... Review: Wonderful. Superb. What a grand adventure. I loved the honesty and realness with which the author, R Alan Fuller, recounts his very personal experiences working with some of the most gifted and spiritually adept people in recent times. His tales of working with the Peruvian shaman don Eduardo Caldron are beautifully recounted in intimate detail. The author also writes on his visits with the Brazilian spiritualist medium, Joao de Deus, whom I have also visited. Reading the author's description of Joao's lifelong dedication to healing and the affect these visits had on him, is inspiring and thought provoking.
Working with shamans and mediums produces experiences that are very difficult to put into meaningful words, but the author does a superb job in this book. He is also to be credited for not pushing a particular belief system or claiming to be a "guru" of any sort. He simply recounts personal experiences in areas that many of us seldom venture. As the reader, it is up to us to feel how they resonate and to discover our inner truths. As the author writes, "Even though I am being candid and literal, it does not mean anything I write is The Truth, however, and I make no such inference." In reading the book though, it is apparent that walking this path has confirmed for the author the knowledge, deep down, of his inherent spiritual identity - and this has provided a steady compass with which to orient his life.
I can't wait for his next book to read about more wondrous adventures!
Rating: Summary: The Spirit of Awakening Review: Wow! R. Alan Fuller's authentic account of his dramatic journeys makes me feel inspired about the world in front of me. High Holy Adventure advocates that mind-expanding experiences of our spiritual nature are not rare but available to us here and now. As I read the text I realized that Fuller masterfully take me on a guided journey through his own experiences that bring a real light to my deepest concerns like fear and love. HHA: Shamans, Spirits and Mediums I know and Love is a complete and encompassing work that will leave your eyes ready and your fingers eager for the next page. With this book R Alan Fuller takes his place along side Eduardo Calderon, Carlos Castaneda, Dom Inacio, and the other spiritual masters he encounters and extends it to us. Thank You.
