Review: The Blueberry Pie Elf brings back nostalgic memories. Having owned the beloved original as a child, I was ecstatic to see it has been reprinted. The reprinted version's illustrations are not as charming as the original, however, the story remains enchanting! As a preschool teacher, I have captured the imaginations of hundreds of students telling this tale about an elf that loves blueberry pie. The tiny elf tries to creatively communicate his need to have a family bake him a blueberry pie. Pure enchantment for the young child!

Review: This book is SO charming and enchanting! The story is easy to follow and entertaining for the whole family. We got our copy years ago and have read it hundreds of times- the children and I never tire of it and now I'm buying copies to put away for the grandchildren! The drawings are adorable, the language is grammatically correct (a nice change from all the slang in current books) and there is actually a whole traditional family portrayed (also hard to find in new books). Good morals and values are encouraged (the elf WORKS for what he wants!) and the whole family shows gratitude and compassion. In a word- WONDERFUL!

The 1959 original is almost impossible to obtain these days, but this SRA school edition is the EXACT same story and stands in quite nicely for a new generation. (Actually, my students seem to prefer the full color illustrations.) I highly recommend it for anyone longing to revisit this hardworking, tenacious little elf! Although you might miss the original illustrations, you'll be pleased to have this precious story in your collection again.
