Review: These poems are constructed as carefully as an old stone wall -- sturdy, compact, gorgeous, useful... and rich with sensations, feelings, stories that speak to the heart and mind. If you love and need both clarity of language and intensity of feeling, you will love these poems. Sarah Hannah obviously delights in finding just the right turn of phrase, and beautiful words. But the language always serves the texture and meaning of the narrative. Her poetic voice is often wistful, as the title suggests. But the work is full of sardonic humor, self-mockery and sharp, clear images that stick and walk with me. I stopped to breathe between poems.
