Summary: An excellent look at egyptian society through Najib Mahfouz
Review: This book gave excellent insight into both Mahfouzs' writing style as well as Egyptian culture in many of its peculiarities. Though at occasionally the author takes some conclusions to extreme ends, the book rings true for arab culture and islamic culture in egypt as it is portrayed through Mahfouz's writings.
