Rating: Summary: How to Suppress Women's Writing Review: An amazing and interesting read, especially for a woman interested both in writing and feminist literature. I'm seventeen, but I'm tearing my way through anything I can get about social issues, especially the women's movement. The book was full of details and examples and well-known citations and while it was tricky to read at some points (perhaps more so because of my busy eading locale), it was well worth it.
Rating: Summary: Monumental. Review: Had to read this for a master's class and was blown away by how good it was. If you like to challenge your patterns of thought, this is the book for you. Feminist masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: Such a moving cri du coeur Review: Science fiction was pretty much an all-male club when Joanna Russ entered the field in the late 1960s. Boys wrote it for boys to read. What sort of reception did Joanna Russ receive? In short order she was awarded the two highest awards that the field has to offer, the Hugo Award and the Nebula Award. Those arrogant, unfeeling, phallo-patriarchal chauvinist dogs, how dare they treat her that way. Anyway, she took all the anger and the hurt and humiliation she felt and poured it into this brief feminist masterpiece.
