Rating: Summary: Not as funny as expected Review: I believe somebody chose the wrong cover for this book. The crowned, goofy-grinned picture on the paperback leads one to think The Dangerous Husband would be funny; it's anything but. What a sad story this was. Terrible thinking it could be true. The narrator (never did give a name) marries Dennis after a whirlwind 3 month or so romance. Their relationship goes through the many stages that most marriages do. Except for that one other thing: Dennis can't seem to walk in a straight line. Throughout their 2 1/2 year marriage, Dennis falls down stairs, trips over himself, bashes his head against the wall, and sometimes, though on accident, includes his wife and pets in his destruction. Now, his wife just wants out. So, like any other average, red-blooded American wife would, she plots his death. The Dangerous Husband seems funny since it sounds so unbelievable, and the writing is exceptional. But you can almost "see" the wife's desperation and torment pour off the pages. Reader's emotions will be tugged in different directions while reading this novel, rooting for one then the other. A very good story, a dark comedy at best.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book Club Book Review: I highly recommend A Dangerous Husband as a book club selection. The men and women in my group all came away with something different. The most interesting conclusion was that this was a classic story of spousal abuse with the couple spreading the injuries around at all the different hospitals only the outrageous stories of how the "accidents" happened were true. A darkly funny read with a great climax.
Rating: Summary: Painfully funny Review: Oh my God, this made me laugh so hard I thought I would die. An accident prone husband whose intense affection for his wife puts her life in danger. The dry wit of it is so subtle that you'll get a little thrill everytime you catch the sarcasm. But, like a lot of stories, the funniest part is the telling of the everyday life events. Once a bit of a plot kicks in and the husband is out of the picture it simply fades before our very eyes. Still, the first few chapters alone are worth the price of the book. Very dark and very very funny.
