They cried with me at the intense emotion expressed by the great poet Bayati and his masterful translator, Bassam Frangieh. Frangieh succeeds in doing so much more than translating: he unveils the meaning of the text and presents it faithfully and smoothly in English verse. This book is the essence of loneliness, love and homeland. No one has ever translated Bayati into English before. Frangieh's work is unique and immensely valuable.
