Rating: Summary: Warm-hearted stories with serene love for pastoral life Review: Hwang sunwon is one of my favorite writers. His works are poems with beautiful lyric to praise rural life rather than novels. His narrative is quite calm, never stirred by furious emotion. Stillness in his voice sometimes makes his stories look unimpressive, but, without argument, they're well written. I'm afraid, on the other hand, that the translator is not somewhat talented enough to empathize Hwang's stories with rich description into English words. Though it's clearly behind my expectation, they are well-translated in a general way. If you are looking for something to read to soothe you in these times of violent changes, it's the one.
