Rating: Summary: Encyclopdedic information and biographical human interest Review: I purchased my copy of this book on 8 March 1994. I just finished reading the last entry of this 696 page volume last night (10 November 2003). While using it occasionally as a reference source, I also read slowly and intermittently through the entries over a period of some years, leaving my bookmark where I last stopped. Authors, well known titles, publishers, and miscellaneous information on the era of British Victorian fiction can be found here. I also have in my personal library THE OXFORD COMPANION TO ENGLISH LITERATURE edited by Margaret Drabble. The volume by Drabble is larger and more comprehensive of the whole field of English literature, but for Victorian fiction, I turn first to STANFORD COMPANION TO VICTORIAN FICTION by John Sutherland, as it contains specialized information not found in a more general work, and often in greater abundance.
