Rating: Summary: a favorite patterson Review: what i liked best about this book was how he got into the "heads'" of the characters. as they go through their experiences I liked the way he presented their thoughts - hope, despair, dissapointment, revenge...all those feelings are brought out very well (something they totally skipped in the movie which made it a bit flat). anyway, this is a great book and i recommend it to thriller/detective lovers.
Rating: Summary: The book was okay Review: If I have to read a book for school I usually pick a suspense or horror novel. I saw that Kiss the Girls was about murder on it's jacket cover. I figured it would have plenty of horror and suspense. After reading Kiss the Girls I found it was not so suspenseful and kinda far fetched. In the book a psychopath, Cassanova, is stalking women, capturing them, then taking them to a remote location. At this location he does different things to them to torture them. Then he kills them in odd ways and hides their bodies. When the police find out about the missing people Detective Alex Cross begins to investigate because his niece was one of the ones missing. Cross, has been trying to catch the psychopathic Cassanova for a while when Kate McTiernan shows up at his office. Kate was one of the ladies that Cassanova had captured. She was able to escape before she was killed. Kate tells Cross what is happening to the girls that the man takes into the woods. After Kate agrees the detective decides to use Kate as bait to try and catch the psychopath before he can harm another woman. To see if the detectives plan works you need to read the book. Patterson was able to make the characters lifelike. I felt what Kate went through in her struggles to free her self from the psychopathic Cassanova. And how she was disturbed from her traumatic experiences with him. I even felt sorry for her as I continued to read the book. Alex Cross was really into his job. He did anything he could to find the killer of these women and put his life on the line to do so. At times I found that the book was slow. Yet in the parts where the book needed to be fast to show action the pages could be read very quickly. The plot made me see a new side to murders. That real people actually live like this. Killing others and getting the high that comes along with murder. It was kind of sick to see how a person can feel so good about committing a murder. The level the author wrote on was very easy. No words come to mind that I had trouble understanding. Like in many books about police and death usually there are words I do not understand, but I feel Patterson used a good word choice in the book. I would not recommend this book to children under twelve due to its very disturbing contents. I think they may get scared or get bad mental pictures from its detailed scenes. Teenagers who like death and destruction would like this book because obviously there is a lot of blood and guts. Anyone who likes suspense would be a perfect candidate as a reader of this book, because this book is full of suspense. I thought this book was a little far fetched. The ending did not seem like it would work out in real life the way it did in the book. To sum Kiss the Girls up I thought the book was okay. The book was kinda boring, and my idea of murder is more gruesome. The book was not really scary. I think I would have enjoyed more horror in the book. Also more focus on Cassanova and less on Cross. I must give the book some credit as I was kinda anxious to see what would happen next. I would give the book a 2.5 on the scale of 1-5, but since I can not pick 2.5 I will give it a 3 since I am in a generous mood.
Rating: Summary: Another Great! Review: I love Patterson's books! He's a superb psychological thriller writer, with attention to details, while keeping you at the edge of your seat and not wanting to put the book down. Kiss the Girls is a brilliant cat & mouse thriller!
Rating: Summary: Patterson gets a 3 1/2 stars Review: Not bad for my first ever James Patterson novel. He style is efficient and his novel is fast-paced to bring suspensful aura that will make readers aask for more. His main character, Alex Cross, is appealing. "Kiss the Girls" is a little on the strong side with the full desriptions of the killer's rapings and murders. Though the book is incredibly written the ending brings slight disappointment. By Patterson's vague and nebulous hints of who the killer is, you can guess before the novel is done. Though it has only but a few minor flaws, the intensity and truth to the killers' minds sends a chill down your spine beyond any you have ever felt before.
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: Wow, WHAT a book! *Kiss The Girls* is an easy read and a definite page turner. The chapters are unbelievably short (approx. three pages)and you find yourself saying, "Okay, well just one more chapter before I go to bed" and before you know it it's WAY past your bedtime. The author intentionally mentions things in earlier chapters knowing they will trigger a reader's memory later in the book. I found myself flipping back through earlier chapters to re-read a character's physical description, job title or how they treated the lead character. Yes, I agree with other reviewers that the way the "two big breaks" in the case were just GIVEN to them, which was kind of lame and why no one would bother giving police protection to the ONE witness in a multi-state crime spree. What is really a shame, however, is the graphic nature of the book, including violence and pornography which would make me think twice before recommending this book to a friend. It's one thing to say "violent sex acts." But quite another to describe them! I told a friend about this thrilling book I am reading and she wants to read it but after finishing it, and knowing her moral views, she would be horrified at the snake "scene" and the repeated "tick c***" phrase (if you read it, you know what that is). As for me though, I WILL be reading this author's other books!
Rating: Summary: Need a Little Scary Excitement? Read This! Review: From the time that I opened to the first page and began reading this novel, I became very engrossed in it! It begins with Casanova, who is very very sick in the head, especially over beautiful women. He stalks his prey for awhile, picking up all the information he can about them, and then plans his attack. There is more than Casanova though who is stalking his prey and killing these women. Another one, Rudolph is behind the scene as well, and in a pact with Casanova. Alex Cross is back once again in this novel. And as usual, he puts all of his detective talents together to solve this one along with his friend Sampson, and the FBI behind them. Another factor in the case is that Naomi, Alex's beloved aunt is being held hostage by Casanova along with other women. Alex Cross is frantically trying to find the location where the women are being held before they are killed by this psychopath. The book will make your heart pound and is a real thriller for a Read on and find out. I really enjoyed the book!
Rating: Summary: pretty entertaining but anyone could write it Review: just finished this book. very entertaining, well paced. but alot of weaknesses. first, one person said it's a who-dunnit till the end. basically any of the characters could have done it if they were white males. also, their two big breaks in the cases are basically given to them. it's just unbelievable. i look at well done books and wonder how authors come up with their plots but in this one they just stumble onto it. no columbo or rockford files smart detective work here. when you see the ending, i guess it is obvious that patterson didn't want his detective to be perfect. not a terribly believable love story between alex and kate (was that her name?). maybe added something to the plot. a very easy read. hadn't read a book in a few months so got me back in habit which is good.
Rating: Summary: A good police book Review: This book is amazing in every message it gives, first of all Alex Cross is a good father, play with his children all the time he can, he never gives up at work and has respect for his friends and family. Kate is a person who wanted to live no matter what, at first you think that she is a little bit smug but when you know how was her childhood you will understand why. The story of the kidnapping of the girls, the investigation and even the horror that suffers the girls don't skip anything or takes it from the hand, everything that happened in the book is perfectly explained, sincerely much better than Hannibal.
Rating: Summary: Diabolical Characters, Ingenious Plot Review: I never saw the movie. Never read a book by Patterson. Never really wanted to. So when I idly picked up "Kiss the Girls" while browsing a local bookstore, I didn't expect much; it was on a table of "fun beach reads" or some such thing. I read the first page or two. I bought the book. And I can't remember much after that, except that, heart pounding, palms sweating, I entered the obscenely diabolical world of two serial killers: The Gentleman Caller, and Casanova, terrorizing both Coasts at once. With skill and his own brand of genius, Patterson takes the reader into the crazed yet terrifyingly logical minds of each killer. We are there while they stalk their victims: young women who are smart, educated, self-assured, and perfectly beautiful. At least in the eyes of their killers. We are there during some of the most gruesome and terrifying murders. We are there as Casanova sexually tortures his live victims in his House of Horrors, in which one infraction of the "house rules" results in horrible death. What is the connection between these two killers? What is their sick purpose? It falls to police detective/psychologist Alex Cross to solve the mystery. But Alex has more than a professional interest in the case. His beloved niece Naomi is one of the missing women. I challenge anyone to put this book down once begun. I was absolutely amazed at the hold it had on me--and still does. I immediately ordered the next in Patterson's Alex Cross series, "Jack and Jill." And I have recommended "Kiss the Girls" to every book-loving friend I have.
