Summary: Definately Not His Best!
Review: I bought this book because I am a fan of John Grisham, but I was very dissapointed after reading it. It started off slow and never really picked up from there. It was about a public defender who got rich quick from an unmoral deal. Then he got greedy and lost it all. Not very original! I would recommend borrowing this from a friend or the library instead of buying it. It was a waste of my money and it will be a waste of yours too! Go with another Grisham novel like "The Runaway Jury" or "A Time to Kill" instead of this one!!

Review: Not up to Grisham's best abilities. This was a bare bones romance with a noticable lack of the colorful charactors and scenes that I usually enjoy with his stories. Whatever happened to Max Pace? Seems that Grisham simply rushed through this book and was saving on adjectives and adverbs. I feel like he stopped 'painting a colorful picture' after The Painted House.

Summary: that's what you expect from a novel
Review: tough the beginning is a bit unreal (a drug that made people kill and a lawyer who is basically positive agreed to conspire to hide the truth), the subsequent developments are rather natural, no doubt a lot of research has been done, perhaps except those in the business, most readers will learn something about mass torts in an easy and enjoyable way, jg did a good service to his readers, those rating it one or two actually should not read it at all

Summary: How could this be called a thriller?
Review: If you don't care about manipulative, greedy, lawyers, you'll be hard pressed to care about this "hero". Character development starts out well, and fizzles into shallow stereotypes. The plot, initially engaging, drops into a predictable "when will he lose all the money?" and "will he stop sleeping with the model to get back with his married ex-girlfriend?". In a phrase, who cares? Definitely NOT Grisham's best, or even most mediocre, work.

Summary: Someting is missing
Review: This book has a preety good storyline but I often found myself falling asleep while reading it. It doesn't have any action or suspense like the early Grisham's books had. He just keeps getting worse with every novel. If you are interested in reading John Grisham don't read this one, read his early stuff like The Firm, The Client, or A time to Kill. Skip this one though. Clay Carter is a very believable character but he is not exciting enough, he is just a very boring character who starts out small lawyer with no real hopes or dreams. Then through a lawsuit he makes millions, gets greedy, and the he ends up bankrupt. That's what the whole novel is about.

Summary: Half decent writing - piss poor plot!
Review: After having read a number of Grisham's novels, this was the most dissapointing. I suppose it started out strongly, you know... classical Grisham. But then something went wrong and the plot never recovered. The characters were shallow and one dimensional and the ending fizzled out. I finished the book feeling cheated. How I wish I could get those hours back!

Review: This has to be the worst Grisham book yet. He must have to pay for a new pool or something. Painted House was a real novel, with interesting characters and plot. The King of Torts is thin....
And who can really like this simple-minded character who gets dazzled by some big buckos and con men. Its quickly get repetetive.

Summary: Eric The New King of Torts
Review: I happend to like this John Grisham book. Alot of other reveiws said that it did not keep you on your toes. I Thought the characters had multiple levels to them. I just did not like how the book had a sudden change to it. The book did make up an unbeilevable story about the drug that made tequila kill people. The whole rags to riches was kinda hard to believe about clay carter too. Overall I did enjoy wandering what hoop to jump through next.
