Rating: Summary: Stephanie Plum is a hoot!..In "7" she chases her tail... Review: or is it her tale?I'll admit that the back and forth tale of "Eddie DeChooch" (what a great, completely New Jersey name!)gets a little long & drawn out, but the mystery in this takes a back seat to Evanovich's crazy cast of characters! What a treat to have Steph's dysfunctional sister and her two scary nieces to thicken the stew of crazies that populate this series! Just when you think it is safe to be on the road again, Steph starts driving a motorcycle. And, the thought of her transporting "human" organs around in order to ransom her grandma tells you that Evanovich must stay awake at night to top the last book in the series with outrageous scenes. I confess, I want it to be Morelli, but I'm OK with still having a love triangle carry us from book to book. But the best, oh yes, are the scenes at the Plum's dinner table, where Mom & Dad are constantly reeling from the things they learn from the various members of the family over pot roast. "Just kill me now", each of them contributes when they learn of the newest craziness from Grandma, Steph, and now Valerie. Not in the least stale, but perhaps Evanovich has to expand her horizons a little more....(Stephanie visits California?), while always returning to the "burg". Great read! Postscript: I have all 7 of the novels, but can never lay my hands on more than one, because I'm in a constant state of "lend" to friends. A sure sign of a winning series!
Rating: Summary: Geriatrics gone wild Review: Stephanie Plum, bond enforcement officer, a.k.a. bounty hunter, of Trenton, New Jersey, is certainly spinning her wheels on her latest assignment. Eddie DeChooch, a geriatric who dated her Grandma, got caught bootlegging cigs from Virginia. Somehow the job got botched leaving DeChooch scrambling to fix things. An old dead woman is found in DeChooch's shed and two old geezers keep breaking into Stephanie's apartment. Nothing out of the ordinary for Stephanie Plum. Old high school classmates (and harmless losers) Mooner and Dougie are somehow involved with DeChooch. They're in danger and don't even know it. "DeChooch was after something and he thought Dougie had it. And now he thinks Mooner's got it." First Dougie disappears, then Mooner. Stephanie calls on Ranger, bounty hunter supreme-o, for help. But his fee for bringing in DeChooch is one entire night alone with Stephanie. I'm sure this wouldn't sit too well with Joe Morelli, the Trenton cop who Stephanie's kinda-like-maybe-sort of engaged to be engaged to. On the homefront, Steph's perfect sister Valerie moves back home with her two perfectly hellacious children after her perfect marriage fails. She's thinking of becoming a lesbian and naturally Grandma wants details. Bob, the bulimic dog, is eating everything in sight and Steph's mom FINALLY voices an opinion or two. Janet Evanovich's 7th in this series gives us cool cars, Harleys, mud wrestling, multiple kidnappings and a couple of major contenders in the love life of one Stephanie Plum. Dang!
Rating: Summary: Good, slightly repetitious Review: I love Stephanie but the car blowing, strangers-appearing, mom's dinners and I-cant-decide-with-men is wearing a little thin. Actually, the addition of Bob was one of the best moves made by Evanovich. Not only does he provide comic interest (and divert attention from the boring Rex), he is put to good use on Joyce's yard. The inclusion of arch enemy, bad gal Joyce, is a sure winner - she's so bad she's good. I hate to gripe (and give three stars) but Grandma's crazy talk and antics are getting a little old (pardon the pun). Highlights of the novel were her tryst with Ranger (at last), the return of perfect sis Valerie, and Mom's self-discovery. The villians were ho-hum, not really evil nor even dangerous like some in the past. Lula's dialogue (another gripe) is also getting stale. If she is not mimicking Rambo she's stuffing her face. How can one person eat the volume of food she does is beyond me. I don't know what is required but something different needs to happen soon. It would not hurt if she and Morelli got married. That would certainly introduce an entirely new wrinkle in the story. I'd love to see either (1) Stephanie on the trail of Joyce or (2) Joyce and Stephanie forced to work together to bring in a common foe. Either would be a heck of a novel!
Rating: Summary: A Plum Good Read Review: Stephanie Plum, the "bounty hunter from hell" is back for her seventh book by Janet Evanovich. With all of her previous wacky, off-the-wall adventures, there is only one really important question left to answer in this novel: Will Stephanie blow up another car? You'll have to read SEVEN UP to find out, but I will tell you this. She does finally do something with her hair. In this book, Stephanie is after Eddie DeChooch, an aging mobster who failed to appear at his court date for smuggling cigarettes. It's amazing how Stephanie can't seem to apprehend the depressed, next-to-blind senior citizen, but it wouldn't be a Stephanie Plum adventure if that weren't so. All of the regular cohorts are back. The back-of-her-mind love triangle between the hunk-of-a-cop Joe Morelli and her hot professional partner-in-crime Ranger is blossoming quite nicely, and the cliffhanger at the end of this book will leave you speechless. Grandma Mazur is her same colorful, scene-stealing self, and we finally get to meet Stephanie's sister, Valerie. And does she ever make a great first appearance! Mooner and "the Dealer" are also back with more prominant roles, filling out a wonderful cast of characters. As always, Evanovich writes a fast-flowing hilarious novel. Evanovich likes to throw you off guard every once in a while, whether it be with inept, bufoonish bad guys, a crazy funeral viewing a Stiva's, or even a small taste of mud wrestling. She is seemingly always on top of her game, and in touch with pop culture. Hey, for you professional wrestling fans out there, there is even a reference to the Rock. SEVEN UP will keep you guessing throughout, taking you on a wild ride. It is a very entertaining read.
Rating: Summary: There's one thing terribly wrong with all Evanovich books. Review: The wait until the next book comes out is maddening. Seems like I've twiddled my thumbs for ages waiting on "Seven Up" to be released....and the day it was, I was waiting at the bookstore ready to elbow anyone between me and the display! Those yummy men are back to "play" with Stephanie; meaning Joe Morelli and Ranger. How is that girl ever going to decide between the two of them when both are so wonderfully male and magnificent? Then of course there's Grandma Mazur at her zany best and an estwhile little known family member makes an appearance. Stephanies "perfect" sister Valerie whose "perfect" marriage has bit the dust, leaving her to contemplate the possible advantages to becoming gay. Lots of laughs are evoked through her decision to make lifestyle changes while living with her and Stephanies parents. Mother Plum is menopausal and frustrated, Father Plum is trying desperately to stay in his own world and ignore the chaos around him and Grandma is, as always, looking to be where the action is! Throw in Bob the dog, and those pharmaceutically impaired space cadets, Mooner & Dougie and it's once again madcap insanity from page one to the last page. I don't know if I agree that this book is not as well written as the previous 6. I know I laughed just as hard and if it were possible to give any Evanovich book more then 5 stars I'd do it....just for the laugh factor alone! You can't read a Stephanie Plum book and not walk around with a silly grin on your face for two days after you've completed reading it. If you know anyone that's depressed, give them a Janet Evanovich book to read. Doesn't matter which one....they're all excellent for a lot of chuckles!
Rating: Summary: As always, bizarre and hilarious Review: Simply put, no one looking for a truly entertaining, engaging (albeit light) read should pass up this series. Each installment is solid and immensely satisfying; by the time you've read even one of these novels, you will feel that you know Stephanie Plum personally; you will think of her as a friend and ally. Her antics and adventures are endlessly amusing, and the end of each book will only leave you wanting more. Don't miss this series!
Rating: Summary: Utterly Outrageous!!! Review: Janet Evanovich has such a way with writing comedy. I love her Stephanie Plum books. Its truly amazing how she can come up with all these different stories. I just love them! Stephanie continues her bounty hunting and at times is just so hilarious. You'll never believe how she get's revenge on Joyce Barnhart, her bitter rival and arch enemy.. This time the chase is after Eddie DeChooch. Along with Grandma Mazur,Morelli,Ranger,Mooner,Dougie, Bob, and a couple more people she picks up along the way, Stephanie goes for another wild ride:) This is a book that will keep you laughing so hard you'll be in stiches. I often yearn to be in her shoes. This reviewer recommends Seven Up to anyone looking for a good laugh, and I give it my highest rating:)
Rating: Summary: Another funny Stephanie Plum adventure Review: SEVEN UP by Janet Evanovich Here's the seventh in the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich: SEVEN UP. The series starts off with Stephanie unofficially engaged to Joe Morelli, but she's also lusting after Ranger, the rather unconventional bounty hunter (not that bounty hunters are conventional). Stephanie continues to deal in the bounty hunter business, this time trying to capture an old man named Eddie DeChooch who is more elusive than she would like to admit. Mooner and Dougie from Hot Six are somehow involved with DeChooch, when Dougie disappears without a trace. It's Stephanie to the rescue! And of course, there's at least one visit to the neighborhood morgue, with Grandma Mazur up front and center. An adventure with a pig's heart turns this one into a somewhat darker Stephanie Plum novel. Also, the first half of the novel did not read as funny as previous Stephanie Plum books, but all in all, SEVEN UP is still a fun fast read, and will have the reader chuckling before too long. This is definitely recommended reading for those looking for a fun beach read!
Rating: Summary: Stephanie buys a pig's heart and tries on a wedding gown Review: Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter working for her lecherous cousin Vinnie in Trenton, NJ. Klutzy Stephanie often mistakes her can of hair set for pepper spray, and forgets to charge her stun gun. It's a wonder she captures anybody. HOT SIX ended with undercover vice cop Joe Morelli proposing marriage - sort of. In SEVEN UP, Vinnie assigns Plum to seize Eddie DeChooch, who's jumped bail on a charge of cigarette smuggling. But Eddie refuses to be brought in until he finds something he's lost, and he's willing to resort to gunplay to make his point. But Stephanie hates guns - she keeps her .38 in a cookie jar. And what has DeChooch lost? All we and Stephanie know is that it has to be kept cold. In the meantime, Plum must mentally grasp Morelli's marriage proposal. They've an on-again, off-again relationship ever since Joe took her virginity on the floor behind the pastry counter of the bakery where she worked at eighteen. Mrs. Plum, whose nightmare is her daughter as an Old Maid, takes Stephanie out to try on wedding gowns when the latter, in a desperate moment at the Plum family dinner table with guest Joe, blurts out "August!". Will it happen, you think? Now seven novels into the Stephanie Plum series, it's evident that Evanovich writes to a fairly rigid formula, at least so far: Plum gets an ostensibly easy assignment that goes terribly wrong when her quarry proves elusive and one or more bodies are discovered; Stephanie has car problems; Stephanie must temporarily put up with an eccentric roommate; Stephanie dotes on her pet hamster, Rex; Stephanie is followed by suspicious characters; Stephanie takes her Grandma Mazur to viewings at local funeral parlors; Stephanie's sidekick in dysfunctional fugitive apprehension is Lula, ex-ho and Vinnie's file clerk; Stephanie has the hots for fellow bounty hunter, the mysterious Ranger. Whatever fantastical situations and characters the author additionally creates seem to be outlandish for their own sakes rather than maturing her heroine's persona. While that's not necessarily bad, it does lend each book a strain of boring predictability. The author needs to expand Stephanie's horizons. And I'm becoming increasingly annoyed that Plum's long-suffering parents remain ciphers. Mind you, I still enjoy Stephanie's adventures immensely. But I'm unwilling to award any more five-star ratings unless Evanovich provides something surprising or very clever.
Rating: Summary: I have to hold... Review: I have to hold my stomach because the laughter makes it hurt! Oh the tension between Ranger and Steph!....FUNNY FUNNY READ! What are you waiting reading this review for?? Go read the book!
