Rating: Summary: Must be the author who gave it 5 stars! Review: This story is impossible to believe right from the beginning. First off, why would Nora (or anybody with any brains) accept a "gift" with a two-million tax lien on it? Secondly, I don't know how much money newspaper society columnists make where you live, but where I live, you'd have to do an awful lot of writing to make two million dollars. I thought this book would be a funny, fun, quirky mystery with some semblance of a plot. Instead it was just plain boring and contrived.
Rating: Summary: A good escape Review: This was a fun, fast paced read. I really enjoyed it. I especially liked the words "first in the Blackbird Sisters Series" because it means a chance for more books like this. I'm not sure I can relate to the heroine (not many of us can get to 31 without ever having a job) but I found her fun and interesting. The romantic interest was a guy who may or may not be Mafia. He was sweet, but also dark and mysterious. There was also a zany cast of characters. I'll definitely read the next one.
Rating: Summary: Excellent start for a new series Review: This was a great read! The Blackbird sisters are winners, even if their husbands tend to die young. Each sister is clearly drawn and personable, Michael Abruzzo is yummy, and the ambience of the setting is beautifully done. An excellent start for a promising series.
Rating: Summary: Quick and Good Review: This was a very good book. I read it in one night. I hope it is a long series. Michael Abruzzo - hot, mysterious - hot!!!
Rating: Summary: A fun read Review: Though I didn't make the connection until I was almost finished with the book, I have one observation that may make buying this book an easy decision...If you've read and liked Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, this new series is for you. If you like Joe Morelli in Evanovich's novels, there's Michael "The Mick" Abruzzo in Martin's series. If you like the quirky mysteries that Stephanie solves, Nora is involved in mysteries just as off-the-wall and unbelievable, but most importantly, funny. Stephanie has her connections throughout the Berg, and Nora is part of a high-society, Old Money family that has fallen on hard times due to outrageous spending habits. But, not to worry, Nora's society connections are alive and well, and put to good use in solving crimes among her societal peers. I recommend this book as a quick, entertaining read; I hope Martin manages to achieve the level in the reading world that Evanovich has.
Rating: Summary: Fun New Mystery Series Review: When Nora Blackbird's parents fled Philadelphia, abandoning their former socialite status, they left Nora, their daughter, with a property tax bill of two million dollars. Now, at the age of 31-years-old, Nora has to try to find a job. And she's lucky, for she finds one as a Philadelphia newspaper's society page columnist. Unfortunately, her job doesn't mention anything about playing detective, which is what she ends up doing when an old family friend, and millionaire art collector ends up being murdered during Nora's first party assignment. Now she has to solve the mystery, before she ends up dead next.Martin has created a very likable character in her first novel from the beginning BLACKBIRD SISTERS MYSTERY SERIES. Nora is a fun, sexy character, who has many strange, yet entertaining quirks about her. A mystery with a comedic kick. Great for all mystery fans. Erika Sorocco
