Summary: Schizophrenia and Multiple Personality Disorder are Differnt
Review: I have enjoyed Ms. Hooper's work in the past but Sense of Evil read as a textbook on psychics and abnormal psychology couched in conversations. Most of the conversations were between two people who were supposed to be attracted to each other but, while they sparked when touching in the book, there was no spark for this reader. I found the main characters shallow and Rafe's abilities unexplained other than her had a psychic grandmother. The action manifested itself in gory descriptions of disemboweled bodies but the police spent most of their time sitting in the station house looking at papers . . and talking (did I mention all the talking?).

I don't require physical romance in a mystery or a detailed mystery in a romance story. Unfortunately this book missed both targets - the mystery is not tantalizing and the romance and sex are non-existant. So, why read the book? I kept thinking something would happen and I did want to know the killer, which was a good denoument but predictable by the last third of the book. So 2 stars since I did feel compelled to finish it - but her earlier series involved the reader much more.

Summary: A Chore To Finish The Book!
Review: I have never written a Review before, but I do read many of the Reviews written about the featured books, and enjoy this service to the customers ~ Thanks!
I really struggled through this book and I have read many of Kay Hooper's books. I didn't care for the main characters of the book, as I felt that they had no substance, and that's usually a first sign that this book would be a quick page turner for me.
I also didn't care for the subject matter about Psychics, which took of up most of the book. I felt I was reading a text book instead of a novel, and that's not what I'm looking for in a book.
I read a lot of Mystery Books, and most of them have great plots, but I had to search through this one to find any kind of a story line.
I won't give up reading Kay Hooper's novels, and hope I enjoy her next suspense novel, better than I did this one.

Summary: Not Kay Hooper's finest.
Review: I have read every book Kay Hooper has written and every book I have loved!! This one however, was very disappointing. If I wanted to know how the mind of a psychic works I would have bought a book on the subject. That was all this book was about. One murdered girl. Two dead bodies. Oh what a disappointment this book was. Save your money. Wait till it comes to the library. Hope her next one lives up to her usual standards as the best in Suspense.

Summary: Don't Bother
Review: I love the previous books in the Bishop series, but could barely get through this one. The character development was very poorly done and characters that I have no idea why they were even introduced or what they had to do with the story. I mainly got fed up with all the psychic detail that went on and on. This felt like a short story that the author tried to stretch into a full length book. Very disappointing.

Summary: Do we have to wait another year now?
Review: I think that Kay Hooper has done it again. She just gets a little too sappy in some spots for my taste. I do agree with the woman who says you need to read the others before this one.
but the only one that is a must before you read it is the one with Bishop in the beginning...from there you can read just about anyone. I think that is the "Shadow" series. I just hate that I waited a year for this book and read it in one night and now have to wait another year for the next one....<sigh> oh well such is life.

Summary: A very good read!
Review: I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews on this site. I've read all of Kay Hooper's books and I found this one very entertaining as well. Maybe not her absolute best but certainly up there.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: I'm not usually into mysteries but I really liked this book. It had good characters, an interesting plot and a touch of romance. I'd like to toot my own horn by saying I suspected the identity of the murderer before it was revealed...but it's so well written that I suspected EVERYBODY! (in my opinion that's a very good thing).

Summary: Disappointing...especially in hardcover
Review: I've been like many reviewers a long time fan of this author and have found this latest "Evil" novel to be less then inspiring, or fun to read.

It does read like a textbook as far as the topic of psychic issues. Our teaching was couched in conversation normally between Rafe and Isabel. We would hit these class lectures normally right in the middle of the murder/mystery portion of the book, and I would just be getting into the meat of the story, and then I would be derailed by "too much information." This is not to say that I don't care for instuction and added background. I do, but there is a time when it is just too much. We unfortunatly hit this wall of information throughout the story.

This was just an okay read. There was plenty of suspense (who was doing all of the killing and why) but I just felt that the fleshing out of the storyline, as well as character development was not truly priorty while writing the novel. The relationship between Rafe and Isabel was rather confusing. She spent most of her time lecturing him on paranormal issues, and less time letting her hair down and being relaxed while she was with him socially.

To be honest I did skim a few pages, but still, I was okay as far as not missing anything important. This was not her strongest effort and if you are picking Ms. Hooper up for the first time I highly recommend her other earlier reads or even the other two "Evil" reads. An author can't be on "top" all of the time and we should just remember that she is capable of doing so much better. I'm really looking forward to her latest series she has started that will still feature Bishop and his team, and hope that she is back on track as the author we love.

Summary: entertaining police procedural
Review: In Hastings, South Carolina, Police chief Rafe Sullivan knows the third blond victim means a serial killer is on he loose. What he cannot fathom is how the culprit persuades these intelligent young women to enter the woods with him. There is no hint of a struggle in any of the three homicides which makes sense to the local cop.

To help Rafe, the FBI's Special Crimes Unit sends Agent Isabel Adams to work the case. Upon meeting Isabel, Rafe has cardiac arrest when he sees her, the profile of the victims. Though her police skills are top rate, Rafe knows the Feds have numerous elite cops to do this job. As they work together to end this evil killer, Rafe learns why Isabel with her special talent was sent to assist him.

Though similar, especially the killer, to a recent tidal wave of serial killer novels, SENSE OF EVIL is a well-written entertaining police procedural with touches of romance and the paranormal. The story line is loaded with suspense that is somewhat relieved by the glib and flippant Isabel. Rafe is a concerned cop worried about the killer striking again and frantic over the safety of Isabel who he loves. SENSE OF EVIL is a fine entry amidst the sub-genre flood of novels.
