Rating: Summary: Another winner! Review: The threat to Benni this time is emotional, not physical but it is as harrowing as any she's faced. Fowler's books are based on relationships always and this book more than any. For fans you get to know characters you love better and see their flaws full blown. You get to know newer characters much better and get to solve an old mystery. The relationship with Gabe and Benni is on the line in this book and the outcome is satisfying and hard won. I can't wait for the next book and a chance to see how the lessons learned in this book follow through. I hate to finish these books when I have a year to wait for the next one.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: This book was great. The problems between Benni and Gabe were too real, that was the story. Benni's quest to find out what happened to Maple was secondary. I truely enjoy this series. I find I cannot put one of Earlene's books down once I start it.
Rating: Summary: Great new book in a fabulous series Review: This is one of my most favorite series. Benni and Gabe Harper are very likeable characters. I did find this book a little harder as Benni and Gabe are at odds through most of the book. I didn't like how Benni handled things, but then not everyone handles things the same way. Once I was able to accept that, I was able to settle down and enjoy the book.In this book Gabe's ex-partner is passing through town. When Benni meets this ex-partner, Del Hernandez, she is quite surprised to find out Del is a woman. Gabe had never mentioned having a woman partner, even though this was before they met. The former relationship of Gabe and Del puts a lot of strain on their marriage. Benni is asked to inventory four trunks full of materials possibly related to the decades-old bludgeoning death of wealthy Garvey Sullivan. While inventorying these trunks, she begins to speculate about the murder and thus starts investigating. It helps her keep her mind off her personal problems. Benni always seems to investigate things in a way that makes me want to read the next page and then the next. I have a lot of trouble putting these books down. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.
Rating: Summary: --This story kept me on pins and needles-- Review: This is the ninth Benni Harper Mystery story. Benni Harper of San Celina, California is preparing for two family weddings. Her beloved grandmother Dove has consented to marry Isaac Lyons who is a world famous photographer. Since Isaac has been married five times before, Dove wants to make this wedding extra memorable so she is considering different theme weddings. Maybe being dressed in medieval clothing, or being married in a mountain cave or out at sea? She can't decide on what to do and calls Benni each day with a different wedding scenario. The other wedding is for Benni's cousin Emory who is marrying Elvia who also happens to be Benni's best girlfriend. This is a joyously awaited day because Emory has loved Elvia since he was eleven years old. The beautiful Elvia wants everything to be perfect and cowgirl Benni is knocking herself out in her role as matron of honor. In her job as curator of the local folk art museum, Benni is working with Ford Hudson a very attractive duty sheriff on an old murder mystery that took place in San Celina. The mystery involves a suspected love triangle and the diary and artifacts from the case are intriguing to her. Ford's obvious infatuation with Benni is flattering, but starts to become a problem. In the midst of everything going on around her, Benni and her husband, Gabe Ortiz are having the worst kind of marital problem, Gabe's former lover comes to town and lets everyone know that she wants Gabe. Each and every book in this series has been entertaining and all have been "terrific reads." I found this story to be emotionally touching and it was good to see Benni Harper mature as a person, and handle her problems with a realistic approach to life. Earlene Fowler, please hurry and publish the next book.
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly enjoyed it! Review: This ninth book in the series is another compelling read! I've watched Benni grow throughout the series and in Steps to the Altar she came across some of her greatest challenges and dealt with them admirably. Earlene Fowler's writing brings you into the story and you'll find that the book stays in your mind long after you finish reading. Thanks, Earlene, for keeping the story and characters so fresh and alive.
Rating: Summary: Great Job ! Earlene !! Review: Wow! I just finished reading Earlene Fowler's latest book. I have to admit I could not put it down. I have read all of Earlene's books in the Benni Harper series and I am amazed at how Earlene still keeps me longing for another story. The story line was great! I need more Benni books NOW!
Rating: Summary: Another Winner Review: Wow. Not only would I say that the latest Benni Harper story did not disappoint, I would add that I'm most impressed with how Earlene Fowler has kept the series from becoming predictable! As usual, the characters seem so real to me that I feel like Benni is my personal friend. This story takes an edgy turn, and I felt like I was feeling Bennie's emotions with her. I don't know quite how Earlene Fowler does it, but her books keep getting better and better. Unlike other authors who seem to loose steam when writing a series, this series seems to keep going strong. Thank you Earlene for a wonderful couple of days! Do I have to wait a WHOLE YEAR for the next one?
