Rating: Summary: Extraordinary characters and a Thrilling plot!!! Review: I've read "Face of Deception" and after it I was dying to read the next installment on Eve Duncan. I was not disappointed! The relationship between Eve and Joe Quinn is incredibly INTENSE and ELECTRIC!!! I was unable to put this book down! The Bonnie/Eve dynamic is sensitive and touching!
Rating: Summary: AWESOME!!! You'll be on the EDGE till the very end! Review: This is by far and away one of the best thillers I have read. There is danger, intrigue, a bit of romance...... What else can a person ask for? Once I started the book I could NOT put it down. I was guessing until the very end. See notes other review for a brief synopsis....I wouldn't want to give anything away!
Rating: Summary: superb serial killer tale Review: Ten years ago the state executed serial killer Frasier for murdering twelve children. Frasier never disclosed the burial sites of his victims. This left most of the parents struggling to find any solace for themselves even with his death. One of the mothers, Eve Duncan becomes a forensic sculptor, a person who recreates a face from a skull, in her personal effort to attain closure. She assists authorities with their investigations and helps grieving families. On a more personal note, Eve daily prays that one day she finds her own daughter's skeleton so she can bring her child home. Atlanta police detective Joe Quinn learns that among a mass grave site near Talledega Falls is the skeletal remains of a child. Joe deeply cares for Eve, making her ten-year old obsession his quest too. He adds Eve onto the case, not realizing that his action attracts her to a serial killer, who has hunted human prey for decades. This inhuman shark sees Eve as an exciting opponent to taunt with information about her daughter before he kills her. Eve takes up the challenge. She plans to end this predator's long running game. Fans hold Iris Johansen in high esteem because of her powerful thrillers that intrigue readers because they provide several viewpoints that smoothly blend into an exciting story line. Her current novel, THE KILLING GAME, unfolds from the varying perspectives of the heroine, the detective who loves her, and the mass murderer. Each one's interpretation of events feels genuine as their motives and personal baggage come to the forefront, adding a human touch to the action. Ms. Johansen freshens up a sub-genre that has been over-killed by too many identical story lines. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Not published yet but it is sequel to The Face of Deception Review: I wish I had been able to preview the book as the reviewer from NY has, but the first Eve Duncan book, The Face of Deception (almost 446 pages -- read it in 3 1/2 hours, literally couldn't put it down), was outstanding and I'm hoping this one will be even better. If you liked these two, check out AKA Jane and Run Jane Run by Maureen Tan. All feature strong female leads in complicated and interesting plot lines.
Rating: Summary: Hold on to your hats! This is one scary story! Review: Iris Johansen knows how to tell a whopper of a story, and THE KILLING GAME is no exception. She packs an emotional wallop while at the same time creating an intricate thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very last page. Eve Duncan is a terrific character with the kind of job that would make any novel interesting, and her tragic past makes her the most sympathetic of heroines. Read this book! And then, if you haven't already, go read the backlist. What a great way to spend the summer!
Rating: Summary: AWSOME BOOK Review: This is a great book, if you read and didn't like "The face of deception" which came before this book, don't let that not let you read it. ( I did like that book though, but you don't have to read it first to know what is happening, although it does explain a few things, ) I loved this book though, and there are a few that go after it, Body of lies, The search, Dead aim (Has a few of the same characters), no one to trust (also some of the same characters) and Blind alley, which wasn't as good as the other ones. I think there was another one that has some of the same characters again, but I can't think of it.
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC!!!! Review: I NEVER READ NOVELS UNTIL MY SON WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FOR 3 WEEKS. I HAD READ ALL THE MAGAZINES AND WAS BORED, SO I WENT TO THE GIFT SHOP AND LOOKED FOR SOMETHING THAT CAUGHT MY EYE. I WASN'T SURE IF I COULD READ ABOUT A SERIAL KILLER WHO PREYED ON CHILDREN, BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE SO MUCH MORE.
I WAS HOOKED FROM THE BEGINNING AND COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. THAT WAS FOUR YEARS AGO AND NOW I READ EVERYTHING I CAN FIND. THIS BOOK STILL REMAINS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE. I HAVE SEARCHED FOR ANOTHER BOOK AS WELL WRITTEN AND HAVE COME SHY MANY TIMES. I LOVE THE TWISTS THAT IRIS JOHANSEN USES. I ALMOST ALWAYS FIGURE OUT WHO THE KILLER IS, BUT NOT "THE KILLING GAME."
I ONLY WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT THIS BOOK WAS THE SECOND IN A WHOLE SERIES BY IRIS JOHANSEN. IT DIDN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE WHEN I WAS READING IT, BUT GOING BACK TO READ "FACE OF DECEPTION" WASN'T NEARLY AS GOOD AS IT COULD HAVE BEEN BECAUSE I ALREADY KNEW HOW THINGS TURNED OUT. I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. IT IS SURE TO SURPRISE YOU.
Rating: Summary: Bring it on. Review: I read this book for hte first time a few years ago and it is still one of my favorites. I thought the plot was great, loaded with suspence, and I was very surprised at the end to see "who done it." And being a romance lover and a suspence lover, to this day, Joe Quinn is one of my heroes and wish he could make me forget for a little while. I read this book over and over. I love it. Read Face of Deception first though, makes it better. The whole story. Its an introduction into Eve's story and then Eve and Joe. Then Body of Lies too. Make sure you get tht whole series to really make it worth it. I hope there is going to be more with these two.
Rating: Summary: enjoyable, go jo quinn Review: i liked the book, not as good as other books by johansen, but worth reading. Johansens style is great - mixin the romance, tension, mystery...fun ride!
Rating: Summary: Could be a little more believable Review: I initially liked the story line and the characters, but found myself getting a little disgusted with the book as I became more involved in the story. The author could have tried to make the situations the characters found themselves in a little more believable. For example, serial killer has killed 9 people and is calling Eve on her digital phone; supposedly they can't trace the calls nor does anyone even bother to attempt to record the calls between her and the killer. After the character Eve has long dialogues with the killer, then gives her emotional outbursts to those around her, she finally tells everyone an abbreviated version of what the call was about. (yeah-right - i think the FBI would find a way to record the call from her cell phone). Another portion in the book - the house in the middle of nowhere that Eve is staying at is being watched by the FBI, the killer is still able to leave a package at her front door step. (how was this accomplished? by becoming a ghost and moving in thin air???) Finally, in the middle of all of this is Eve talking to her dead daughter Bonnie who clearly tells her the bones aren't hers. Bonnie tells her shes a ghost, but when Eve wakes up it must have been a dream. . This books wants you to assume too many illogical movements and attitudes of the key players.
