Summary: A Grand Florida Adventure
Review: In Ten Thousand Islands, Randy White has captured the flavor of the south Florida and Gulf Coast while spinning a tale complete with adventure, intrigue, mystery, and a collection of colorful characters who will come to life in your mind. While reading this book , you will be on the Gulf Coast, in the Keys, chasing the bad guys, and marveling at the mysticism sprinked throughout. It's a mini vacation--a grand Florida Adventure.

Summary: Ten thousand Islands - Randy Wayne White at his best!
Review: Mr. White has the ability to capture the atmosphere of Southwest Florida as well, if not better than Jimmy Buffet does through his many songs. He is a master story teller that takes the reader along for a ride, with you being next to Doc Ford from Page to page. This book, was impossible to put down. Mr. White's ability to make the reader understand the effect of uncontrolled civilization on the barrier islands; to the fury of an approaching hurricane, leaves one, with a great admiration for the man, his imagination and intellect. I encourage all to read Ten Thousand Islands, and then continue the adventure with the entire Doc Ford series. I can hardly wait for his next work, fiction or non-fiction. Randy Wayne White truly loves Southwest Florida and his work shows it.

Summary: The books just keep getting better
Review: Randy and Doc are maturing, the plot moves quickly and smoothly, and now we get important insight into the relationship between Doc and Tomlinson. Just wish Randy could write faster.

Summary: Randy Wayne White does it again!
Review: Randy Wayne White again skillfully weaves fact and fiction with his typically witty prose. Ten Thousand Islands is loosly based on the real-life discovery of an ancient indian artifact that White extrapolates into a tale of greed, deceit and the drug-induced ramblings of Ford's psychedelic side-kick, Tomlinson. I have read all of White's Doc Ford novels, and this is his best work since the Heat Islands. The story is imaginative, the book moves at a good pace, and of course White's musings on Florida are right on the money. ("Like a bus station, Florida attracts con men and predators. It always has. Florida always will.")

I recommend this book without reservation to Doc Ford fans, lovers of a good mystery, or those in the mood for an off-beat and unlikey hero in a wonderfully told story.

Summary: Another Winner from White
Review: Randy Wayne White does indeed deserve the crown of successor to John D. McDonald. You don't realize how much better White's fiction is until you read Tim Dorsey or one of the other South Florida wannabes.

Doc Ford is at it again with his nutty sidekick, Tomlinson. Unlike "North of Havana," where Tomlinson's eccentricity becomes a nuisance, "Ten Thousand Lakes" makes the loveable hippy a nice contrast to Doc's more subdued (and ultimately lethal) manner.

The plotline, about a Spanish medallion with a cursed and spotted history, moves along briskly with an action-packed finale. Doc Ford's penchant for violence stays within the realm of believability and his survival tactics are exciting.

A fast and satisfying read.

Summary: Excellent Florida mystery
Review: Ten Thousand Islands has it all - an excellent sense of place, a hint of the supernatural, an archaeological puzzle, a twisted villian, and a competent hero. I lived in Florida during my childhood, which makes good Florida mysteries particularly enjoyable for me - and this is a good one.

White weaves the history of the Calusa Indians with modern-day grave robbers. Doc Ford searches for someone who desecrated the grave of a teenage girl - Dorothy, a girl with a mystic link to the history of Marco Island - a girl who may have been murdered.

A political candidate, his powerful businessman father, and hired thugs all appear to be looking for what was buried with Dorothy. Plain old evil, madness, and a hint of the supernatural weave together into a fast-paced and exciting story.

Very well done and a good read.

Summary: Ten Thousand Islands
Review: The best Doc Ford yet! White's skill for character development really shines in this one. We are introduced to a little more of Ford in each book. He demonstrates depth in Ten Thousand Islands and is willing to give us a little taste of the man within. Plenty of action, mystery and deception - everything that keeps me coming back for more. A White winner.
