Summary: 3 stars because it's NOT like the usual Patterson...
Review: I am not a Patterson fan. On occasion, I have been forced to listen to his books on tape from the library because everything else was out. Most of his books start out with a decent story and end in a dizzy, uninteresting chase that is all too obvious and makes me want to throw the darned thing against a wall...rarely can I finish one of his so-called "books." The last one, about the woman detective with the rare blood disease and the serial killer who murdered newlyweds was one such example. Loved the premise, thought it had promise when it started, then - wham - the secret of who the killer was was given out to soon, the inevitable chase, the improbable "unmasking" of the maybe-not-killer. Ho-hum. Dumb.So - bear with me - when I picked up the tape of Beach House I was ready for the let-down of yet another Patterson re-run. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the story, though ridiculously implausible at the end, as well, was much better written than most of his books, and had an endearing cast of characters. In fact, this book DOES NOT SOUND LIKE PATTERSON AT ALL, BUT ANOTHER, MUCH BETTER MYSTERY WRITER! For one thing, there are several mysteries threading throughout, and well-paced, to keep you wanting to keep reading from the halfway mark...UNLIKE THE USUAL PATTERSON. All I can think of is that Peter De Jonge is the reason. Perhaps he will write a book under his own name one of these days. I am certain he's behind the improvement of a Patterson (lord, I can barely bare to say the word, because it defiles the genre I so love, okay, I'll put it in quotes)..."novel."

Summary: A Patterson Disappointment!
Review: From the start, a James Patterson fan will notice the change in writing style in this co-authored story, and need a moment to djust. The biggest change will be the use of "immoral" sexual activity and its concequences to punish the villans in this text. Sexual perversion, bisexuality, rape and incest are presented as crimes much more heinous than the murder pivotal to the story line. And, AIDS should not be used as the punishment for these activities!

Summary: A good light read with not much depth to it
Review: A very simplistic read, and, while you expect a blowout at the end, you feel like the ending is your typical "Hollywood Blockbuster" ending--Give the people what you think they want... I did not feel challenged by this book. I felt it is aimed at a lower-level reading audience.

Summary: Waste of Time
Review: I found this book to be a waste of time. It was predictable and very far-fetched. In his desire to create a happy ending for the book, the author allowed credibility to fly out the window. The dialogue was downright silly at times... No one really talks like this! Flowery language belongs in romance novels, not mystery books. When I was finished with this book, I felt a mix between bitter and relieved. Try something else!

Summary: loved the ending
Review: It was a great book. Through the first half and almost through three quarters of it I was beginning to get frustrated that Jack knew his brother was murdered, he was beaten, his grandfather threatened & friends tortured and he was not doing much in my opinion. Then in the end he surprised me. Just what I was hoping for! He and his friends had a brilliant revenge that left me not wanting to put the book down. It was a great. All along I felt like I knew what Jack might do for revenge. But I was wrong! All of a sudden the book escalated and the revenge surprised me. I was not able to the put the book down until the end. It was a great ending. Surprising and I enjoyed the twist of events.

Review: I am a big fan of James Patterson. He does it again with this short little Novel! He always makes the story feel like it's going one way and then takes you to another! Really good read!

Review: I almost bought this book when it first came out. Glad I didn't. Very disappointing from this author. Very badly written with no substance. Probably the worst book I have read in the past year.

Summary: The Cliche House
Review: The book opens with the murder cover-up of the underachieving Peter Mullen parking cars at an exclusive Hampton party. The rest of the novel details the story of his surviving lawyer brother Jack trying to prove his brother's death was a murder and not a self-loathing suicide. Patterson's descriptions of the Hamptons and the lavish parties and lifestyles are reminiscent of a Gatsby scene with the occasional references to contemporary stars. Patterson keeps it interesting with action and the unraveling of lurid sexual details although at the sake of implausibility and a few too many chapters past 100. In the end Jack's 'courtroom' panache pays off and we come to finds out that although his brother was involved in some shady business, he maintained an upright character throughout. Unfortunately it takes two clichéd courtroom dramas for Peter to be vindicated. If only the details were revealed in some other way than through the hackneyed Perry Mason surprises of 'objection!' 'sustained' and 'overruled.'
