Rating: Summary: Poor follow-up to The Talented Mr. Ripley Review: This book was a disappointment to me after having enjoyed both the book and movie of The Talented Mr. Ripley. Ripley is now a married wealthy art collector living in suburb of Paris. He has a fine home and a live-in housekeeper. It's the late sixties. He's involved in an art-forgery ring. A suspicious buyer is ready to give away the secret. Ripley lures this man, a rich American businessman to his house and kills him in his basement. He disposes of the body and the police investigation begins. The story is poorly written with many unbelievable scenes. Bernard Tufts, the artist who has actually painted the forgeries, tries to kill Ripley after finding out about it and helping to dispose of the body. Tufts knocks Ripley unconscious and buries him face down in a shallow grave in the woods behind his home. He awakes buried alive and manages to dig himself out. Ripley goes about his business for the rest of the day as if nothing has happened, taking care to put the sweater he was buried in into the laundry hamper for washing. Ripley pointlessly travels all over Greece looking for Bernard. He returns to his house and then travels to Austria where he finds Bernard. Bernard sees Ripley and thinks he is a ghost. He flees from him and throws himself off a cliff in fear. Ripley burns Bernard's body at the foot of the cliff and takes an assortment of bones and charred flesh back home with him in his suitcase. He shows these bones to the detective investigating the disappearance of the rich man and seemingly convinces him that Bernard was the killer. It's all very contrived and unconvincing. The travel book feel of some of the scenes is distracting and annoying. In The Talented Mr. Ripley the lovingly detailed descriptions of Rome and Naples and the French Riviera seemed appropriate. Here the author prattles on with, among other things, a pointless multi-page description of the Mozart museum in Salzburg that has absolutely nothing to do with the story. All in all unsatisfying and poorly done.
Rating: Summary: Ripley - you love to hate him Review: This is the third I've read in the series (I must have read Ripley's Game out of sequence) and I really felt like an accomplice to Ripley's nasty shenanigans ... Highsmith's style is brilliant.
Rating: Summary: Dull,Dull,Dull,Dull... Review: This is the worst Ripley book. The plot lacks narrative drive and goes nowhere. Ok, Bernard Tuft is a very good caracther and there are some flashes of Higsmight's talents but in general is dull and slow reading.
Rating: Summary: Exciting Sequel to THE TALENTED MR. RIPPLEY Review: This sequel to the TALENTED MR. RIPPLEY is just as exciting and suspencful as the the first book. Actually, I read it to find out what happend next after the movie ended, but the book does not serve that purpose. The movie added a kind of cliff-hanger ending that doesn't exist in the TALENTED MR. RIPPLEY book, so the second book won't fill the reader in on that. This book begins a new adventure and series of murders that are equally as gripping as the first book. Readers wondering about he future of Tom's gay life will be disappointed as he is married now, but the author drops a few interesting tid-bits towards the subject of Tom's sexual orientation. Mostly the focus is on Tom's constantly having to get out of serious jams that could send him to prision for life. I loved every page of it and can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Rating: Summary: Not as good as the others... Review: This was a really slow read. Although I love the Tom Ripley character it was hard to enjoy this book as I already knew he was an evil, deceitful character. It wasn't as suspenseful as "The Talented Mr. Ripley" when the reader wasn't quite sure about Ripley's character yet. Still, it is a good mystery novel and worth the time.

Rating: Summary: A Worthy Second Novel for the Series Review: Tom Ripley has aquired a beautiful wife and a lovely home in the French countryside. As Tom's life can never be without conflict, Tom finds himself caught in the middle of a forgery scandal that could destroy the world he has made for himself. We find Mr Ripley a little older, a little wiser and a little more sure of his ruthless capabilities. The Author, Patrica Highsmith, stretched the lines of plausibility on this one just a little, but then again we are talking about the ever scheming Thomas Ripley.
Rating: Summary: Not so great Review: Unlike some of the other Ripley books, this one was poorly written and was made even more difficult by the language references made throughout. Not the fastest read although the characters were interesting.
