Rating: Summary: RED DRAGON -- MORE THAN JUST A PAINTING Review: For Hannibal Lector fans, this book is a great introduction into one of the most psychopathic minds ever written about. While Lector is already in prison for the crimes he committed in Silence of the Lambs, he serves as a partial accomplice to another serial killer, Francis Dolarhyde, who is killing entire families. This time, however, the FBI also goes to Lector for help in capturing the killer. At the center of the investigation is retired FBI agent Will Graham, who has the distinction of catching two mass murderers in his FBI career -- one of them being Lector. It is incredible to watch Graham's mind as he puts the pieces of the puzzle together working against the clock before the next family is murdered. Once again, Graham will pay a hefty price for bringing justice to the forefront. This book was written over 20 years ago yet reads as if it is taking place in the present time. It is easy to see how Harris has placed himself above most other thriller authors and most likely served as an author who inspired others to follow his lead in this genre. He delves into the mind of the psychopath and does not hold back. This is one scary book. Of course, my advice is to read this before Silence of the Lambs but even if you've read that one already, this one will stand alone quite nicely.
Rating: Summary: Red Dragon Review: I read this book many years ago, and have recommended it to dozens of people. My own paperback copy is probably out there circulating somewhere. A truly awesome book, not for the faint of heart.
Rating: Summary: A great read! Review: This book is a non-stop thrill ride that will keep you guessing the entire book. Will Grahm is a great character along with a short appearance by Dr. Hannibal Lecter, they both contribute great amounts to this very suspensful novel.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST THRILLER!!!! Review: If there is a better thriller out there then please please let me know what it is.. Silience of the lambs may be more popular but this book blows silience out of the water.. For sure the best of the 3 lectur books, though not to take anything away from the other 2, i enjoyed both of them very much.. but this is truly harris's best work.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not great. Review: I enjoyed the book overall. The ending was too predictable. Sometimes it was too detailed. But, the killer was crazy enough to be intrigueing. And the forensic descriptions were incredible. If you like true crime books this one is very good.
Rating: Summary: A very good horror Story, but no Hannibal Lecter Review: Don't get me wrong. This is a very good book about a monster, but we can only read about Dr. Lecter for only a few lines, and he is only a accessory character to the story. Mr. Harris did not need him for this book, so I repeat myself: A very good horror story, but no Hannibal Lecter.
Rating: Summary: Makes you want to sleep with the lights on. Review: Red Dragon held me captive. This murder mystery/horror novel evoked curiosity, fear, repulsion, and sympathy. I can honestly say I was spell-bound throughout the book and simply could not put it down. I started it late on a Friday night, finally fell asleep after 3 a.m. (with all lights and TV on) and read from 8:30 the next morning until the mid-afternoon when I finished. Really a wonderful book that reads like your watching a movie. Not for the weak of heart, however.
Rating: Summary: Exciting - Better than Hannibal Review: If you enjoyed Silence of the Lambs I'd suggest reading Red Dragon before Hannibal. Red Dragon's characters are rich and the story is touching and beleivable with two interesting love relationships that add real depth and character. Hannibal Lechter is interesting but a minor player. The story is wonderful on without Dr. Lechter.
Rating: Summary: Be amazed Review: Note the date of publication. Harris is the best at putting the detective into the mind of the murderer (tip of the hat to John D. and Truman Capote). Will Graham is a more interesting creation than Clarice. A frightening page-turner that is populated with damaged souls becoming... You will not forget this one.
Rating: Summary: In awe until the end... Review: Instead of giving a synopsis of the story, which has been done well by amazon, I will give you some of my thoughts and reactions to the book. From the 2nd chapter to about the 50th I was very interested in the story. The plot was fast moving and I could not put the book down, wanting to know more about the killer and what he was thinking. However, like another reviewer explains, the ending is cliché. Evenmore, the ending is a bit, rushed to say the least. Nevertheless, this book is a good read and I feel that any fan of the genre should read it. But don't be upset if you are dissapointed by the ending, I told you so. But if you liked it, then fine, good for you.
