Rating: Summary: Perfect for Vacation! Review: I absolutely recommend this novel to mystery fans who like comedy in their stories. The characters are hilarious, and the murder mystery is just enough to keep you guessing the entire book. This novel is a bit like the Golden Girls meets Designing Women meets Sue Grafton. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Just funny enough Review: I am a twin (and so is my sister, chuckle), and we loved this book. These sisters are a refreshing change from the 30-something loners of many mystery stories (although I like most of them, too). I thought the book was just funny enough -- very entertaining without being a spoof or mockery of Southern life, sisterhood, or aging.
Rating: Summary: 3.5 Stars: Cute little vacation book! Review: I enjoyed reading this delightful little story on my vacation! While I didn't "laugh until I cried," I was very amused at the antics of these two southern sisters. Since I live in Alabama, I especially enjoyed all the references to the Birmingham landmarks. This novel started out rather slow but I admit to reaching a point where I didn't want to put it down; I couldn't wait to see who was murdering these people. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series!
Rating: Summary: I love these books! Review: I guess it was the title that caught my eye at first..but once I started reading I couldnt put it down. A laugh out loud mystery, Girl's Night Out was a fabulous introduction to the Southern Sisters. Thank you Anne George for creating the most enjoyable crime solvers I have come across since Kinsey Milhone!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I just found this series when browsing through my local mystery bookstore and can't wait to read the next and the next and the next. Fortunately for me, they are sitting on the shelf waiting for me to get started. The relationship between these two sixtyish sisters is great. The tangled relationship among the family is great. Keep up the good work.
Rating: Summary: So cute Review: I loved Murder on a Girls' Night Out--read it in two days. Thank-you, Anne George, for writing a book I can recommend to my mother.
Rating: Summary: Murder at the Scoot is a Hoot Review: I picked up this book expecting two twenty-something sisters solving hard-boiled crime. Was I ever pleasantly surprised to meet Patricia Ann and Mary Alice - sixty-something and full of humor and curiousity. They're Birmingham, Alabama steel magnolias who are definately nineties ladies. If you like Diane Mott Davidson's books, you'll like these ladies. There are plenty of laughs (particularly if you are close to any sixty-plus ladies) and enough mystery to keep the reader interested. This review is based on the Recorded Books unabridged tape which is narrated to perfection by a Ruth Ann (who must be Patricia Ann's soul sister).
Rating: Summary: I wish these ladies were MY aunts! Review: I've re- read they first 2 pages so often, I think I've memorized them. And still I laugh. The relationships between the two sisters, and the youngest sister and her husband are terrific. The plot is average, some tangled relationships and convenient events detract from the solution, but you'll love the characters and the setting.
Rating: Summary: Murder on a Girls' Night Out Review: If I had to describe this book with one word it would be UNLIKELY! I found the two to be unlikely sisters, both in appearance and personality - though I do understand that even twins can be markedly different and that it's hard, if not impossible to escape our childhood roles and be able to interact as mature adults - but the fact that the inherently impulsive Mary Alice dominates the much smarter Patricia Anne was hard to swallow. I wanted to scream at Mouse to GET A BACKBONE! The plot itself was also unlikely - the complex interrelationships were so far removed from reality that I had to wonder about Anne George's disfunctional background.....Surely life in Birmingham, Alabama is not this far-fetched.
Rating: Summary: Unusual Review: It was an unusual style. One doesn't typically find mystries with older women as the heroines. I can only recall Jessica Fletcher.
