Summary: Good But...
Review: In felt that this story was building up to a great big finally and boom there it was...the end and...I don't know... I felt let down. This was really a fast paced read up until the end and without giving up the ending I was left scratching my head as to how they figured it out and hello how they came about it. Still this was an okay read... certainly not one to rush out and buy brand new but one that is worth picking up second hand or from the library. Don't expect Lisa Gardner or Linda Howard but do keep an open mind.

Summary: disappointing and incoherent story...
Review: In my oppinion, Anne Frasier (who used to write romance novels under the name "Theresa Weir"), fell way short with "Sleep Tight". Here is why.

"Sleep Tight" is about a serial killer who kills young beautiful girls in some place of USA. The killer doesn't leave behind a single piece of evidence, no trace whatsoever. The local police doesn't have a clue of who the killer is or what his motives might be. In view of this lack of knowledge, the local police calls in an FBI profiler (Mary) to help catch the killer. Mary's sister happens to be a local police officer and the two sisters, putting aside their old mutual resentments, join forces to stop the killer and restore peace to the little town.

The psychology and personality of the characters are coherently and reasonably well described, with one exception: THE KILLER!!! A real serial killer is, otherwise, a normal person who doesn't talk to dead rotten bodies thinking of them as alive. A serial killer as methodic and intelligent as the one described in the book (that never leaves behind any trace and fools the FBI profiler), doesn't turn himself in and then blow his brains out!! In summary, the serial killer portrayed in "Sleep Tight" is unreal and ridiculous, in the sense that serial killers don't behave like that. (If you want to know about the psychology of serial killers, I recommend the book "Dark Dreams", by Roy Hazelwood.) In an attempt to describe a really twisted guy, Anne Frasier screwd up and ended up with an absurd character devoid of realism: a methodical serial killer who doesn't distinguish between reality and delusions. Psychopaths and psychotics are two very different kinds of animals and Anne Frasier doesn't seem to have it clear.

Another thing that I didn't like is that the profile written by the FBI profiler (Mary) is useless to catch the killer. The killer wasn't even in the list of suspects that the local police elaborated based on that profile. Many pages in the book are dedicated to the killer's profile which is never used later in the story. So, the killer is finally catched due to a fortuitous event rather than to the police's investigative work. In this respect the story is a disaster.

Additionally, "Sleep tight" and "Hush" (the previous mistery book of Anne Frasier) have many parallels, too many in fact. It seems that "Sleep Tight" is just a (bad) variation of "Hush". By the way, "Hush" is a much better book. "Hush" is perfect, it has the right dose of everything. "Hush" keeps you guessing and chilled all the way through the ending, which is marvellous. "Sleep Tight" is just a rehash of "Hush".

I give two stars to this book though because the relationship between Mary and her sister is very entertaining.

Summary: chilling, taut and electrifying serial killer novel
Review: Mary and Fiona were the best of friends so that when Mary stumbled over her murdered friend's body in their tree house she was devastated. The fact that her sister Gillian hated Fiona and defended the man who confessed to killing her almost destroyed her. When Gavin got out of prison, Gillian got him a job, an apartment and gave him moral support.

Mary becomes an FBI agent while Gillian becomes a police officer for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in her hometown of Minneapolis. When two teenage blondes are abducted and later found dead, Gillian and Mary find themselves working on the same case. As more teen-age blondes turn up murdered, the officials believe they have an organized serial killer on the loose, one that wants to make Gillian his next victim.

SLEEP TIGHT is a chilling, taut and electrifying serial killer novel with an antagonist who will send chills of fear up the spines of the reader. In the midst of so much tragedy, it is heartwarming to see the wedge between the sisters dissolves to the point where they become friends. Anne Frasier has written a novel so terrifyingly ugly yet realistic, many readers will need a night light when they go to sleep.

Summary: multi-layered suspense
Review: No, really, I was about 1/3 of the way through it and she scarfed down the last 30 pages. So I reordered it and I'm not really thrilled that I did.

Gillian was an idiot and should definitely not have been a cop, especially since she did it to compete with Mary. And how dumb was she with Gavin, she didn't realize how he would misunderstand her actions?

The killer came out of left field and the resolution was less than satisfying.

And what was with Mary and Anthony? He drooled over her through the entire book but she was completely oblivious and again, not much of a resolution.

Can't believe I bought this twice!

Summary: multi-layered suspense
Review: SLEEP TIGHT is a multi-layered book that doesn't follow the traditional thriller/suspense plot. You have an old mystery. You have a new mystery. You have the conflict between sisters. You have a great twist at the end. I read both HUSH and SLEEP TIGHT. HUSH is a straight-forward thriller. SLEEP TIGHT is also a thriller, but it's more internal and focuses on relationships and emotions.

Summary: A book that keeps you guessing
Review: The book is one that I could not put down. The begin to the end it kept you in suspence. You will not want to put the book down. One of my favorites.

Summary: "Sequel"
Review: The reason I gave this a 5 because of
Mary and Anthony. What we need is a "Sequel" of them. To make up for the strange last four chapters. I was very surprised who the killer was. All and all it was really a great book. However, I would and friends of mine, who read the book also like to see more of Mary and Anthony the FBI profiler.

Summary: Fell apart at the end
Review: This book was great, until ... the mystery was solved.
For the first two thirds of the book I turned the pages eagerly anticipating the next tidbits of info that would lead to the killer. Unfortunately they lead to nowhere. The killer ends up being a totally disconnected character that no one could have ever "guessed". I like a mystery that's tough to unfold, but when "whodunnit?" can't be determined no matter how closely you pay attention, there's a problem.
It seemed like Anne Frazier had an idea who the killer was and then changed her mind and inserted a brand new guy.
Oh well, I liked her style of writing and have just purchased "Hush" - we'll see how that one compares.
