Rating: Summary: We readers know how to make espresso the right way now. Review: I enjoyed this mystery. It was a quick read and the characters were likable. There was a good balance of mystery and romance. I even tolerated all the cute coffee themes with the cat's name and such. The one thing that bothered me was how many times the coffee explanations were repeated. I didn't mind the descriptions of coffee drinks and how they are made the first time but to repeat them every time a drink is made (And they made a lot of them!) was too much. One thing I found amusing was how Claire disliked decaf but drank strong coffee drinks all day and night. She either has an amazing resistance to caffeine or she never sleeps. Cut out a few descriptions of coffee being made and what designer clothes they were wearing and this will be a great series.
Rating: Summary: Great new book...quick read...BUT... Review: I sat and read this entire book in a few hours. The characters are well thought out and you really like them. Even the secondary characters like Tucker the Asst. Manager was great. BUT... like alot of the reviews before me stated, the endless references to expresso,coffee,java,latte..ect...gets really old. If it was only in reference to the liquid it would be one thing, but it was also in reference to her cat, the color of her hair, ext. For crying out loud, Clare and Matt even drank coffee flavored liquer.PLEASE!!!! Great story but learn to skim through the brewed babble.
Rating: Summary: Books, coffee...what could be better? Review: I was very excited to begin reading this book and enjoyed it for the most part. There were some aspects of it that I felt could have been edited out. For instance, the repeated referrals to designer labels on any given piece of clothing a character was wearing....not necessary. I agree with a previous reviewer, I wish I too could have been the editor of this book. It had all the makings of a great book, but just missed the mark. I do plan on reading the second one...hoping for an improvement on what could be a great series.
Rating: Summary: On What Grounds Review: If you're a coffee drinker and just can't let go of that cup for anything, then this book is for you. But would you put that cup of coffee down if a murder just took place? Could another murder be developing and it could be you next time, just take another drink of that coffee and read the book to find out just who's next. Larry Hobson-Author-"The Day Of The Rose"
Rating: Summary: This one Rocked Review: Let me tell you this was a great mystery. I loved it there was real suspence here. It just kept me turning the pages. Loved the cover and the book. Welp, off to find another mystery. Gina
Rating: Summary: Wasn't sure at first.... Review: Like I said, I wasn't sure about this one at first. But once I started it, I couldn't (or didn't want to) put it down. Can't wait for the next one.
Rating: Summary: LIKED IT A LATTE! Review: Okay, I got the bad pun out of the way. Seriously, this is a really good mystery and fun. I'll admit it was the coffee stuff that got me to buy the book, but it was the story and the characters that made me like it. Hopefully this series will take off like that one about the tea shop. Why should tea drinkers have all the fun?
Rating: Summary: Who knew coffee could be so entertaining? Review: This cutting-edge cozy is set in a Greenwich Village coffeehouse and features a well-rounded, interesting cast of characters centering around Clare, the manager of the Village Blend, her wayward ex-husband Matteo, and a hard-nosed NYPD homicide detective with eyes for the protagonist. When an employee meets with a suspicious "accident" Clare must find out why a young, beautiful dancer moonlighting as a barista was murdered. The quest leads Clare on a journey through New York high and low life, and eventually to the answer. The climax--which reveals much about the tragic circumstance of the victim--will leave you touched. Like a perfectly-brewed cup of coffee, On What Grounds is good to the last drop.
Rating: Summary: A SOLID MYSTERY WITH DAFFY CHARM Review: This truly delightful urban (and urbane) mystery is set in New York City's Greenwich Village, and what a treat it is! Clair Cosi takes over the management of the Village Blend (a long-established landmark coffeehouse with a vivid history) at the insistence of the ailing owner, who is also her former mother-in-law. Clair is reluctant but agrees to take the job in order to stay close to her daughter, now attending a Manhattan culinary institute. But Clair hadn't bargained on murder, nor the interference of an attractive (but cranky) police detective with no palate for coffee. And there was no way that Clair could prepare herself for the return of her insufferable (but altogether charming) ex-husband. What sounds like a set up for a romance novel becomes an edge-of-the-seat murder mystery that could only happen among the colorful denizens of The Big Apple. Clair's hunt for the killer takes her to a modern dance class crowded with catty suspects, a toney New York charity ball complete with society schemers, a crazy scene in a Christopher Street bar, and an unexpected confrontation with a cold-blooded, calculating killer. Most delightful is the witty dialogue, especially the repartee between Clair's roguish ex, who can't help but charm her! And the hard-bitten New York homicide detective is a great character, too. Some of the dialogue in ON WHAT GROUNDS is reminiscent of those old Nick and Nora Charles movie mysteries, but with a decided, 21st century twist. This wonderful blend of humor, mystery, and charm will go down like a creamy carmel latte!
