Summary: Disappointed...
Review: I had a hard time finishing OUT OF THE SHADOWS. Although it is evident that KAY HOOPER is a skilled writer, her characters in this book felt like paper - no depth. I think the main reason for this is Ms. Hooper's success in keeping the characters to themselves and not reveal too much about who they really were inside. Unfortunately, this left me, as the reader, cold and unconnected to the characters and what was unfolding in the story.

Summary: Outstanding!
Review: I haven't read anything by Kay Hooper since reading her contribution to the Delaney saga many years ago. I was extremely happy I picked up this book! It was impossible to put down. I am fascinated with FBI profiling, forensics, and crime, and this book was right up my alley. The characters of John and Miranda flow together in perfect symmetry, and she makes sure to leave the door open for other books to follow with the recurring characters without seeming too hokey, sort of like Nora Roberts does. The book sends chills up your spine and makes you feel like you are inside the silence of the lambs. My only complaint was the lack of steam in the book, but even that was surpassed by superior storytelling.

Summary: A nice thriller!
Review: I picked this up at an aiport store and it is the first Kay Hooper I have ever read. I guess I started at the end of the trilogy but found the story very exciting. Teenagers were turning up missing in this little town and Sheriff Miranda Knight calls in the FBI profilers to help her with the case. FBI's premier profiler, Noah Bishop, is an old 'friend' of the Sheriff's and the story goes from there. Pretty interesting. It got me thru a plane trip and I hope I didnt ruin it for myself by starting at the end of the trilogy. Has some Xfiles features and if you like that sort of this, this may be your cup of tea.

Summary: A great way to pass the time...
Review: I picked up this book with no knowledge of the Noah Bishop trilogy, nor with any knowledge of Kay Hooper and her books in general. I was merely looking for something to get me through the torture of jury duty. What a delightful suprise it was...

This phsychic thriller begins with the disappearence of three teenagers in a small town in Tenessee. Hooper soon introduces us to Miranda Bishop, the sheriff, with a mysterious past, and the dark mystery man FBI agent, Noah Bishop. As these characters interact sparks begin to fly and you are caught up in a great mystery with the added dazzle of physchic abilities.

While intially the idea of a an FBI team gathered together for their "extra" abilities may seem far-fetched, Hooper soon, wraps the reader so far into the story, that it becomes totally believable. Knight and Bishop desperately try to track down a serial killer, while combating their visions of the future and the heat between the to them. Hooper has created a roller-coaster of a ride in her latest novel...with the added bonus of a twist in the end. Moreover, this can be a stand-alone read without the need of reading the first two "Shadows" novels for background. If you are looking for a mystery novel that is not just run of the mill, "Out of the Shadows" is a great choice.

Summary: WOW!! What a spooky book
Review: I really liked this book! Miranda Knight is a woman living in a small town, trying to keep safe her 16-year old sister, when a string of bizarre murders happens. She is forced to call in her old flame Noah Bishop, who may be the only person who can help her to solve these murders. Bishop was featured in Kay Hooper's other books of the "Shadows" trilogy.

"Out of the Shadows" was one of those books you just don't want to put down. I was almost late for work because I didn't want to stop reading before I got to the end. The ending of the book, as you'll find out for yourself, was a bit of a surprise. Just when you thought it was over and everyone was going to live happily ever after, another twist came along in the plot.

The tension between Miranda Knight and Noah Bishop just sizzled. I was hoping for them to get together from the very beginning because, after reading the other "Shadows" books, I just HAD to know what happened to Bishop. I really liked both their characters, and felt they were very strong, admirable people. This book was very satisfying and definitely gave me chills. I was afraid to go out to my car in the dark after I read it!! No joke!!

If you are looking for a light read that will amuse you and keep you in suspense, this is the book for you. Definitely the best one of the trilogy.

Summary: Too gory, bad ending
Review: I thought this book had a little too much detail abou the actual killings. And the "bad guy" just didn't fit. His motives were questionable for such heinous crimes. The book is predictable, of course, once you know the killer is mainly after young adults and what do you know, the sheriff just happens to have a teenage sister. Hooper's other books are better written and thought-out, and not nearly as gory. The psychic stuff is a little weird and hard to believe.

Summary: Holds your attention
Review: I thought this was a very good story but a little tedious in working up to what Bishop actually did, and then you find out that he didn't actually do anything that terrible except withdraw when she needed him. The build up to it almost leads you to believe that he personally destroyed her family. I also didn't care much for the ending and the person who turned out to be the killer. It was almost like an afterthought thrown in. The story seemed to point more towards Alex. There was also no real motive given for the torture (such as strangling and reviving) if he was only interested in scientific experiments. He sounded a little too insane to have maintained such a normal appearance for so many years and even become a well respected figure in the town.

Summary: "The X-Files" Meets Mary Higgins Clark
Review: If you're a fan of "The X-Files" and you love mystery and suspense, you'll really enjoy this book by Kay Hooper.

At first, the premise seems a little ridiculous...psychic FBI agents?...but very soon you're caught up in the plot and character interactions, and the suspense makes this book hard to put down. I found myself carrying it with me everywhere so I could sneak a few pages in no matter where I was. I'd like to see Ms. Hooper write more of these books. "Out of the Shadows" is light on the romance, heavy on the mystery, and that combination works very well for this author.

This is the first book by Kay Hooper that I've read, but I most certainly will read the two previous books in this trilogy.
