Rating: Summary: Totally entertaining! Review: My first encounter with Lisa Scottoline's work and I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It has all of the elements of a good legal thriller, which kept me guessing all the way to the end. The plot moved at a fast clip and the writing and characters were colorful. To those who read with precious little time as I do, this book was totally entertaining and one I would definitely recommend.
Rating: Summary: Mistaken Identity is gripping Review: Nothing can prepare criminal attorney Bennie Rosato for the moment she enters a maximum-security prison to meet an accused murderer of a highly decorated police detective. A defendant protesting her innocence is not unusual for Bennie, what turns her world upside-down is when she sees her client. So begins a rough & tumble, hell- bent-for-leather, rip-snorting roller coaster ride of a mad dash toward justice. Maybe! Lisa Scottoline has been monickered as "The Female John Grisham" & I can see why. Not only is her writing style torqued to Mach 1, her story & the fleeting, evocative glimpses of the minds of people zigzagging along that thin legal line is enough to bring Grisham fans to their feet! Very well done! For my full review please go to: ( )
Rating: Summary: Legalese on Display Review: Scottoline has written a fast-paced legal thriller, complete with plenty of lawyerly posturing. Good plot and pacing, with well-developed characters makes for an entertaing read. My only complaint is that there were too many loose ends and unanswered questions in the story (but that kind of story device seems to be so in vogue these days).
Rating: Summary: Crackling legal thriller Review: Scottoline has written an excellent, "can't put it down" thriller, featuring her sometime heroine, Bennie Rosato (Scottoline has a revolving cast of characters who take center stage in each novel)When a woman on trial for murder tells lawyer Bennie Rosato that she is her identical twin, the mystery, suspense and action are only beginning. Scottoline has a great sense of dialague and character, and I enjoyed this novel a lot. She just may be better than Grisham. Also recommended: Rough Justice.
Rating: Summary: This is an engrossing thriller which falls apart at the end. Review: Scottoline is a talented author with a strong legal background. Her characters are intriguing although the villains are a bit stereotyped. The problem with this book is the plot. It is too complicated and the ending leaves many more questions unanswered than I would have liked. Not every loose end must be tied up, but the author left far too many dangling. The book, at 480 pages, is too long. There is not enough plot to justify the length. It could have been edited better. With a tighter plot and a more focused ending, "Mistaken Identity" would have been a top-flight legal thriller. Instead it is a valiant effort that ultimately falls short of its initial promise.
Rating: Summary: Lisa knows her law Review: Sometimes these "legal thrillers" are so thin and shaky on the realities of legal practice that I want to pitch them after the first courtroom scene. Not Lisa Scottoline's. She serves up accurate legal details and spins a good yarn to boot. I've read FINAL APPEAL and ROUGH JUSTICE along with this one. Bennie Rosato's law firm is a place where lots of female attorneys might like to work--all women all the time. The male characters, though, are not macho dogs, thank heaven. Just when you think you see a stereotype coming, you may be surprised. MISTAKEN IDENTITY is not my favorite, since a couple of the plot twists are a bit much. But if you are willing to put strict logic on the shelf for a while, take a trip with these characters and you will enjoy the ride, I promise.
Rating: Summary: My first book by Lisa Sottoline definitely not the last! Review: The book is a real page turner. A curve ball when not expected and a slider when you expect a curve. She keeps you guessing right up to the end.....her legal detail is excellent and story telling outstanding. I do think I know a better place for steak sandwiches....in Roxborough but that is my only complaint! Keep writing Lisa!
Rating: Summary: A Brassy Attorney; A Well Laid Out Story! Review: The combination of personality Lisa Scottoline brings to attorney Bennie Rosato and the intrigue of the story makes this a truly engaging read. Rosato feels like a person you know, or would like to have as a friend. In this particular Rosato adventure, Scottoline portrays an intricate scam that a convict plays on Rosato in order to get her to take the case -- a story that she is her long separated twin sister. The story has some wonderful curves and twists to keep one engaged and we are able to view a very human attorney -- with feelings and convictions -- attempt to do her best with what she learns.A wonderful read that just absorbed me. Rosato is a great character, my favorite among Scottoline's and I hope to read more on her!
Rating: Summary: I'm Not Impressed Review: The story started out interesting enough. I mean, you have a lawyer finding out she has a possible twin up for a murder charge. But, unfortuneately that's as good as it gets. For a story like this to work you should at least have likeable characters. I couldn't identify with any of them and therefore didn't really care to much about them. Now, there were some interesting parts and that's why I gave it 3 stars but as a whole, I just wasn't impressed with this book. If you really love legal thrillers you might like Mistaken Identity but if you are looking for a riveting thriller, don't waste your time on this one.
Rating: Summary: Writes great dialogue but needs work on plot Review: This book is easy to read but there are too many holes in the plot. Also, the ending was just tacked on leaving unanswered questions... a sequel is in the works I'm sure. This was the first book I read by this author and was especially interested because I work in Philadelphia and know the two female lawyers that she acknowledges. I'll give her next book another chance but this is only a 3-star book in my humble opinion.
