Summary: What a Waste of [price]
Review: This was my first and last experience of this author. I disliked the book so much I found myself getting irritated at the characters and the poor writing. King seems obsessed with Kate and her whole lesbian cop thing and instead of referring to her partner, Lee, as just that, she insists on calling her a "lover". Please. The other central characters, especially "Roz" are not particularly good. It seems that we are meant to admire her or something. In actual fact she comes across as someone you would want to leave in a corner to discuss her (...) issues with herself. If you met her in public, you certainly would not wish to spend any time with her. The plot went on and on and on then all in the space of a couple of chapters everything was fantastically solved. What a (...) attempt at a book. I hated this and wished I'd not wasted my money. The back cover sounds exciting but it seriously overrates the contents.

Summary: Looking forward to the rest of the series
Review: This was my first novel by this author. Kate is an interesting character but, to be honest, offers nothing new to the genre, neither does the author's treatment of the lesbian cop theme - this has been done before, and repeatedly.

Plot-wise, this story was novel and compelling, although the emphasis on various religious aspects to the story was wearying.

The revelation of the killers in Night Work was rather rushed and unsatisfying. After having set the climax up over several hundred pages, the discovery of who the killers are was glossed over superficially and too quickly. Their motivations for committing the crimes were not completely credible.

However, this book is full of promise for a person who, like me, is new to the series. I certainly will look for others written by this author.

Summary: one of my favorite police procedural series.
Review: Though it may seem an appropriate measure, vigilante justice regardless of the outcome remains illegal. Unfortunately, many Americans are thrilled by the antics of the feminist vigilante group, Ladies of Perpetual Disgruntlement who use a taser to stun males who have committed crimes against females.

The courts cleared Barry Doyle of statutory rape charges. However, the LOPD abducted him, stripped him, tatooed him with "I screw children" and left him spread eagled on the side of the highway. However, justice turns even uglier when a second group kills two serial rapists. San Francisco police detectives Kate Martinelli and Al Hawkins begin to investigate these avenging angels or devils, depending on your outlook.

Award winning Laurie R. King will probably be the recipient of more honors for her latest Martinelli tale, NIGHT WORK. The numerous subplots converge into the powerful main story line to add much depth to a complex and thrilling novel. Ms. King provides insight into Kate's personal life, especially with her life mate and their friends. Those segments provide relief from a chilling, fast-paced story that is a memorable police procedural.
