Rating: Summary: The very best of Robin's books. Review: Once I started this book I didn't know if I would like it. I saw it in my school's libary and I thought to myself that I ought read this. Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. I finished it in less than a week. That is good for me because I am a slow reader. This book is the very best you can find on ancient Egypt and its mysteries.
Rating: Summary: not a medical thriller Review: Sphinx is not a medical thriller like almost of Robin Cook's book. This book showcases his abilities in a completely different light. The story is exciting , never boring. The story is about a woman called Erica Baron, who is interesting in Egyptology and goes to Egypt. In a souvenir shop, she saw a murderer, and then she investigates about the murderer and because some precious object disappeared in the black market. There are a lot of suspense and action . Two people try to kill her, if you want to know more, read it ! All in all, it's a good book
Rating: Summary: Very Good Read Review: This being the first book of Robin Cook's that I've read, I was very impressed. Although I understand that he does a lot of medical dramas, Sphinx was a truly excellent read. While others complain about the protagonist, I thought Erica wasn't that bad. Although at times it seemed Cook forced the whole Richard-Yvon-Erica thing a little too much, side-tracking from the story. All in all, it's a good book. However, for those that have read it.......do you not think that the name of the book does not really relate to story at all? Perhaps when I was reading the end late one night I missed something important, but why 'Sphinx' as the title? Oh well, just curious.
Rating: Summary: Honest To Goodness Intrigue. Review: This book is actually exciting. It has everything you could want, action, romance, mystery, an INTELLIGENTLY RESEARCHED background (something most plots are lacking). It will make you wish you were wondering about the street markets in Cairo, taking a barge ride down the Nile and studying ancient artifacts. Excellent early work of Robin Cook.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: This book is an excellent read! It was full of mystery and intrigue, while still keeping the plot believeable. I wasn't sure when I started reading whether or not I would want to read a whole book centered around Egypt and archaeology, but once I got into a few pages I was hooked. I would reccommend this book whole heartedly.

Rating: Summary: Great book about Egypt! Review: This was an excellent book. Robin Cook is extremely adept at writing medical thrillers. This book showcases his abilities in a completely different light. Sphinx is a mystery that takes place in Egypt. The book starts out in ancient Egypt with a tale of grave robbing and then takes you to modern Egypt. The book reads well and the characters are well developed. Sphinx got me interested in other books about ancient Egypt and life in the time of the Pharaohs. If you seek a more detailed account of life in ancient Egypt, I recommend Ancient Evenings by Norman Mailer.
Rating: Summary: Seti's Treasure Thriller Review: When Erica Baron arrived to Egypt she never imagined tha more than a fulfilling dreams she was going to be involved in a turbulent intrigue of murder, black market, conspiracy, history, archaeology and treasure plundering linked to the tomb and treasure of Pharaoh Seti I. A well written story that mixed facts about the discovery of Tutankhamen tomb in 1923 with the reality of the black market of antiquities, government employees'corruption, organized crime in charge of funneling antiquities outside Egypt illegaly and the intrige and romance of a fiction novel.
Rating: Summary: Drama and Adventure in Modern Egypt Review: When I saw this book in the library, I picked it up immediately as I am both a fan of Robin Cook, and interested in ancient Egypt. This book is not a medical thriller. I'd say it's half way between a drama and thriller. I really enjoyed reading this book, and read the whole thing over two days. I could hardly put it down. I have personally spent time living in Egypt, and can tell you, Robin Cook has really done his research, making his Egyptian characters come to life, in the way that Egyptians REALLY DO think and act. Most novelists would miss this, as they don't understand the Egyptian personality. This really made the novel realistic to me. I absolutely loved the hereoine, and could really identify with her. I could imagine being an Egyptologist, and going to Egypt in her place. I also liked it that she stood up to her doctor boyfriend, had her fling there as well, and comes out in the end having learned a lot about herself, and about Egypt. A good mix of drama and adventure, sent in modern Egypt.
Rating: Summary: It's nice to see Robin Cook out of the hospital Review: Whether or not you are a fan of Cook's medical thrillers you will enjoy this lively adventure of a researcher in Egypt who uncovers a centuries old secret.
