Rating: Summary: Absolutely delightful! Review: I can't believe all of the other comments. I absoutely love Kay Scarpetta and the others. I've read all her books. I found Winter Table in the library and was thrilled to see it. I went home, read it in an hour and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was fresh and fun. I called a fellow Cornwell fan and recommended it highly to her. Can't you others take a moment and just relax? Kay's stories are great...but they do get a little grizzly once in a while. This sweet book showed Marino to be human; Lucy's "friends" as you're all so concerned about are co-workers who risk their lives every day and had some time off and were "chilling" together. Not necessarily life long friends...just people who are in the same line of work who needed someone to spend the holidays with. If they have the same lifestyle as Lucy, they may have "lost" their families and need someone they can be real with. Lighten up everyone. It was a great book!!!
Rating: Summary: A cookbook with a plot Review: I enjoyed the book. It was low key and relaxing - a nice read while curled up in front of the Christmas tree. Since I never measure when I cook, I didn't miss knowing how many teaspoons of what were included. The ingredients were creative and my family loved the stew. This was a nice Holiday book.
Rating: Summary: Very enjoyable and relaxing Review: I found this book to be quite different from the other Kay Scarpetta books, but it was very relaxing and a nice change. Pete (and all the other charactors) can be a real person when he is not thrust into all the violence and crime. I found this to be a great read and only adds to the whole Scarpetta Series.
Rating: Summary: Your kidding right? Review: I loved Cornwell's first 4 novels. No question they were well done. I just can't figure out what she has been doing since. Winters Table, I took back to the store after only the second chapter. This is not the same writter who once had me on pins and needles waiting for her next book.
Rating: Summary: DELICIOUS Review: I read Scarpetta's Winter Table in about one hour --immediately went shopping and last night had the marvelous Holiday pizza for dinner and today made Lucy's Felonious cookies--yum--both were a great hit and believe me you don't need to have exact amounts to make them. This book was great and I can see each one of the character's as they indulged in their cooking--My favoite part of the novelette, though, was Marino and the little boy--Jimmy--Thanks--Patricia for another great book---By the way as my pizza crust rose I started Black Notice.
Rating: Summary: Get a life! Review: I read this book and it wasn't that bad, okay? If all you people want to do is sit around and criticize some author's work, maybe you should try penning a story that even measures half way to this book. I'm an author myself and I know it's not just *poof* and there's a best seller. I say to all of you with nothing better to do but to bash Ms. Cornwell: Get a life!
Rating: Summary: An Interesting and light read for fans of Patrcia Cornwell Review: I read this book before I read Point of Origin and really, really liked it. I thought is was an ingenius idea to give people a glimpse of the more personal side of Kay, Lucy and Pete, while also describing several mouth-watering recipes. This book is not meant for heavy reading, but merely a light, holiday treat. The story is also not meant for anyone but Cornwell and Scarpetta fans, as no one else would understand the premise. My only complaint is that after reading Point of Origin, it does seem as if all is fine and dandy after such events as Benton's death and Lucy's breakup with Janet, but all in all, this is a very enjoyable, casual read for a rainy afternoon.
Rating: Summary: Ms. Cornwell, are you in there?? Review: I simply refuse to believe this book was written by the same Patricia Cornwell who gave us Postmortem, and Point of Origin among others. The writing style is completely different, and the characters, are well, out of character. The character of Kay Scarpetta kept being refered to as "Scarpetta". Such as, "Scarpetta stirred the stew." Now where does Dr. Kay ever get refered to as "Scarpetta" in other novels? It was just too odd! Save your money, and pray the real Dr. Kay Scarpetta makes an appearance in a book soon.
Rating: Summary: a delightful present to Kay's fans Review: I thought that this was a charming gift to those of us who love Kay Scarpetta and her "family" I read Winter Table early Thanksgiving Day Morning. It reminded me, in way, of Capote's Christmas Memory. The humanity of Lucy and Officer Moreno came through in this short story making it gentle read. Perhaps I will attempt the "recipes".......it really doesn't matter. What matters is sharing quiet moments with this normally "high powered" group of characters.
Rating: Summary: scarpettas winter table Review: I was thoroughly disappointed with this book. It should have been offered as a freebie with her latest novel. I admit I am also disappointed that her increasingly right wing political views and disgust for Washington DC and sometimes convenient disregard for accuracy in regard to the District are finding there way into her Kay Scarpetta books which despite the author I still enjoy. However, this so-called cookbook was thoroughly trivial and little more than a pamphlet. At the same time I bought another compilation of mystery writer recipes entitled "A Taste of Murder" which was a "real" cookbook and whose profits went to help the hungry. Quite frankly I think Scarpettas winter table was quickly written for a quick profit. I also realize the author is developing a reputation for going after her critics so I guess I stand a risk by criticizing her. She recently wrote to the Washington Post criticizing them for categorizing her as a mystery writer. Go figure.
