Rating: Summary: "He" must have seen me when I was trying to read this book Review: I am an avid fan of Mary Higgins Clark, but I would love to have the money back that I spent on this bomb. It would certainly have been nice to know ahead of time that I was purchasing a book more fit for my 9-year-old. It was a terrific idea for a story, but the writing was so juvenile that I had a very hard time finishing the book. I find that I'm feeling a little cheated by relying on the author's name as a promise of a good read. Perhaps if I stick with Mary and skip the books written by the duo, I might have better luck feeling like it was worth the price.
Rating: Summary: Simplistic Review: I hate to knock a book about Christmas, and angels and all that good stuff, but this is just too childish. Actually it would be good for my twelve year old grand-daughter so all may not be lost. This is the second loser by mom/daughter that I have read and I wish they would give it up. Even the last Mary H C I read was trite and poor and not worth the time. Sorry this just is not a good read, period.
Rating: Summary: Skip this one Review: It is a good thing, that the two Higgins Clarks authored this book together, this way they can shift the blame back and forth, although I suspect that most of the writing was done by Carol. The language is juvenile and the story is thin. The most disturbing and threatening part of the book came at the very end, when it became evident, that there are plans to make the publishing of the sequels an annual Yule tide ordeal. My advise is to stay away from them all
Rating: Summary: Major disappointment Review: I have been an avid fan of Mary Higgins Clark for years and have every one of her books. I received this book as a gift and it was obvious that Mary Higgins allowed her daughter to do most of the writing. The book was boring and Carol Higgins is not much of a writer and only sells books because she trades on her mother's name. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.
Rating: Summary: Not Like Mary Higgins Clark Review: I read every single one of Mary Higgins Clark's hardcover books and none is like this. This book did not contain the trademark suspense thrilling storyline that I have come to love about Ms. Clark's writings. I just finished the book because I am an avid Mary Higgins Clark fan. But this book, unfortunately, was a big disappointment. However, I will continue reading anything this spectacular author produces.
Rating: Summary: A book you can't put down! Review: HE SEES YOU WHEN YOU'RE SLEEPING AUTHOR: Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark PUBLISHER: Simon & Schuster REVIEWED BY: Barbara RhoadesBOOK REVIEW: This is one of the best stories I have read in ages. It is a story of an "almost" angel who is sent back to earth to help a young girl and her family. Witness protection has separated the girl from her beloved father and grandmother. With a price on their heads for what they have heard, they are unable to come home for Marissa's birthday. Sterling, the "almost" angel, is sent to help Marrissa. Since he was a rather selfish person on earth and the Heavenly Council wants Sterling to provide he is worthy of entering the Heavenly Gates. I had a very hard time putting this book down. Mary Higgins Clark is the reader and I believe that adds to the telling of the story, as she is co-author. Knowing the way the story should be told helps in reading it to others. This is a wonderful tale of one person helping another and the wonders that can occur when we are willing to come to the aid of others.
Rating: Summary: SPECTACULAR Review: This was a wonderful, delightful read! Read it cover to cover in a matter of hours! Highly recommended this and all books written by both Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark. They are each extremely talented, gifted writers.
Rating: Summary: Sorry folks, I love Mary H. Clark but this one is a bomb! Review: I know I now need to get ready for all of the unhelpful reviews but at least I'm honest! The entire time I was reading this book I was asking myself why was I reading something so stupid! These ladies took "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE" and changed it around to something so lame that I can't believe it was even published. I enjoy reading M. H. Clark because she has some nice, mild thrillers with great stories. This book was not a thriller, nor was it a great story! A lawyer is sent back to earth (to get his wings--hmmmmmmmmmm where have we heard that before?) to help a slightly sad little girl who has a great life. There, I've told you the story and you don't have to read it!
Rating: Summary: I Know Mom, We'll Trivialize Christianity! Review: Well, being the long-time Mary Higgins Clark fan that I am I really thought I'd like this book. But truth be told, this holiday "thriller" is a thunker. It delivers no pinache or pizazz and is written on a 3rd grade level. As a Christian, I am also unhappy with the plot. It's the most unoriginal and tired storyline I've ever read, due to the poor writing it almost is as though they're making fun of Christianity! The lead character was a self-absorbed jerk who lived only for himself and was afraid of commitment "here on earth," so the saints send him back to prove he's got a good heart. You read the first chapter and you know exactly how the darn thing will end. It is not chilling with mystery. The only criminal aspect is that the little girl this kindred spirit is to save has a father in the Mafia. They try to make it a heart-warming tale as well (which puts the hope of any book being a good mystery right in the stew pot with the burner on high). Mary does well on her own, but Carol's books are notoriously bland. The recipe for a good mystery book simply does not have "co-write with your daughter" in the ingredients. Pick up It or On the Street Where You Live for a suspense novel you'll never forget.
Rating: Summary: Mr. Capra On The Set, Please.... Review: What if "It's A Wonderful Life" was thrown in a blender so the protagonist is the guardian angel who needs to look honestly at his life? The result is this ultra lightweight holiday tale complete with abandoned children, a heaven filled with stereotypical wacky personalities and bad guys straight out of a Three Stooges movie. It's an easy, often times enjoyable read, just don't expect deeply honed characters or a substantive story.
