Rating: Summary: mystery with an annoying, often obnoxious, lead character Review: This is the first and last Jonnie Jacobs mystery I will ever read. There is little action or suspense in this mystery and I found Kate to be an extremely annoying person all the way around. She was so irritating that I had a hard time getting through the book. Her tendency to constantly hound the police about every little thing she uncovered and her belief that she could solve the case faster than the police did not endear her to me. In addition, I found that I could not work up much excitement about the other characters or Kate's relationship with Michael. Although this "mystery" is written to center on Kate, I feel that I might have enjoyed it had the author bothered to actually write a mystery. Two thumbs down.
Rating: Summary: Suspense and humor = great reading Review: This is the first Kate Austen book I've read, and I'm definitely going to read the earlier ones. The characters are interesting but believable and the plotting is tight. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: A good mix of humor, suspense, and great characters Review: This was a well plotted, suspenseful mystery. Again, the characters are well written and very likable. The relationships between Kate and her girls continues to grow, and the humor is still great. I was sure at the beginning of the story that I knew who was the murderer. Then came many twists and turns that had me guessing until the very end. Kate Austen is a wonderful heroine. It is enjoyable to watch her character grow with each book. Murder Amoung Us was intricate and a wonderful read! This is one of my favorite series.
