Rating: Summary: Now I can hardly wait for Book #2! --Hurry Mr. Cockey! Review: Hitch is a great character! No really....I laughed, I cried....well, I really didn't cry, but I was sad to know Tim Cockey doesn't have the second book ready to go! What a great story! --I will follow Hitchcock Sewell anywhere he wants to go! I just hope he takes his Aunt Billie and Alcatraz with him!
Rating: Summary: Humorous Debut Keeps You Turning Pages Review: Hitchcock Sewell is a little surprised when the beautiful Carolyn James walks into his mortuary in a tennis outfit and starts asking questions about arranging her own funeral. When she changes her mind and walks out, Hitch does his best to shrug it off. But then Carolyn James turns up dead from suicide. Only it wasn't the woman he met two days ago. More then a little curious, Hitch starts to investigate, uncovering more then he ever bargained for in the process. Meanwhile, he must also survive rehearsals at the Gypsy Players, the worst amateur playhouse in history. This is a fun debut mystery. Hitch's observations and witty/sarcastic narration made the story easy to read. The plot twists quite a few times, and I had no clue what would happen next. The characters were likable, interesting, and well developed for a debut. My only complaint was that the story dragged in parts. A little meandering was ok in the beginning, but overall the story could have used some tightening. Lovers of humorous mysteries will love this book. A star is born in a new series that will entertain readers for years to come.

Rating: Summary: A Solid Mystery/Thriller with a Touch of Fun Review: I am not a huge fan of this particular genre of fiction but every once in awhile it's fun to sit down with a good thriller. Fortunately, this one has all the earmarks of the best in the field. It is clever and funny with an engaging narrator, odd characters and plenty of twists and turns. It's a quick read and a fun way to spend an afternoon. I originally picked it up because the narrator is a funeral director and I come from a family three generations into the business. Having spent plenty of time in the environment, I thought it would be fun to see a little excitement added to the profession. Of course, this was a mistake. It was fun but there were things that just didn't ring true. Fortunately, Sewell's work is only incidental to the story. Other than that (apart from language that got a little flowery on occasion), I had a good time with this novel. I'm interested to see how the characters develop in future novels.
Rating: Summary: Request...not review Review: I can't find a place to email you, so I'm using this venue. Tim Cockey has pointed out that I revealed the murderer in my review...I didn't mean to! Can you please remove my review of this book? Thanks so much.
Rating: Summary: Too wordy Review: I got alot of recommendations about this book. I wish I could say the book lived up to the reviews I had heard. However it didn't. Personally I thought the book was a bit of a yawner. The author obviously enjoyed reading his own words because the book could have been shortened to about half of it's 320 pages. The book kind of droned on and on. The characters were flat and you never really cared who dunnit!!
Rating: Summary: fun on flu medicine Review: I had a terrible flu and a stack of books. This one was the most distracting. I loved Hitch's voice and his profession--not too many mortician sleuths out there. I was not surprised by the big plot twist at the end, but so what? I'll take an "needlessly handsome" undertaker over a mind-blowing finish any day.
Rating: Summary: Better than a travelogue! Review: I haven't been to Baltimore in years, but this book made me feel right at home, almost as though I could easily find my way around with no touristy troubles. I might not even mind a tour guide, if I could get one like Hitchcock Sewell. We just would not--probably--meet at his work. Hitch, you see, is the very handsome son of a very handsome couple who were early TV stars in Baltimore, and were struck down in their prime. Hitch was a mere twelve at the time. Fortunately, he had an Aunt Billie and Uncle Stu who took him in, and raised him as their son. Thus, Sewell and Sons Family Funeral Home. Uncle Stu has gone on to his reward, leaving only Hitch and Aunt Billie to carry on. So--carry on, they do. It was during the funeral of a retired firefighter than a very attractive and young woman came in to inquire about a funeral service. For herself. Well, not really. Because when the corpse of that name did arrive a couple of days later, she did not resemble the former young lady in any way at all. This set Hitch's curiosity bump to working overtime, and before he quite realized what was happening, he was deep in the middle of a local scandalous mystery. Still good friends with his former wife, Julia, they see each other rather often at rehearsals for the Gypsy Players up-coming production of OUR TOWN. Sparks usually still fly between them, too, but at the moment Julia is completely taken up with her next candidate for the position of husband-Peter Morgan, who has a twin sister, Amanda. Amanda is the wife of Allen Stuart, the front-running candidate to become the next governor. Hitch is connected here, too, as a former college pal of Joel Hutchinson, who just happens to be campaign manager for Allen Stuart. Are you confused yet? Well, let's see. I could mention Kate Zabriskie, the widowed young police officer who was married to another police officer, who got in front of a stray bullet during a stake-out. But really, I highly recommend that you read the book. Tim Cockey tells the story much better than I ever could. He should. After all, he wrote it!
Rating: Summary: Kiss Me, Kate Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book - I haven't had this much fun reading a book in a long time! Definitely a page-turner - I finished it within 2 days of purchasing it. Hitch's wry sense of humor and the numerous references to song lyrics added a lot. I would love to see this book made into a movie soon, and I look forward to reading the author's future books!
Rating: Summary: Not exactly Janet Evanovich ... Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I don't think its as funny as Janet Evanovich or Harlan Coben but I did find it entertaining. The story line was a bit "thin" but it had the prerequisite mystery/romance/funny lines. A good first book. I look forward to reading more about Hitch Sewell.
